The classic 2003 Game Boy Advance game, Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town will be getting a full remake this year, on the Nintendo Switch. Marvelous Entertainment announced the existence of the remake in an issue of Weekly Famitsu, where they revealed that they would be combining the content of both Friends of Mineral Town and More Friends of Mineral Town into a revamped version for the Nintendo Switch, which will be called Story of Seasons: Reunion in Mineral Town. As opposed to modern Harvest Moon titles, this game will be developed by Marvelous, known in the west for their Story of Seasons series, rather than Natsume, who is the current owner of the Harvest Moon IP in North America. The game has not been confirmed for the west, but it will launch as a Nintendo Switch exclusive in Japan on October 17th.

UPDATE:

The game has now been confirmed for both a North American and European release. A new trailer shows some more footage.

If it doesn't include and expand on HMDSCute-like same sex marriage but also for guys I'm gonna be disappointed (but will probably still play it).

maaan! It's my all time favourite Harvest Moon! I love the idea of playing it on the switch.
But seriously.... those graphics look like... 2002! Why... just why... Then please bring back the charming GBA graphics in "HD" and everything would be awesome.

I love the game but what they showed as "graphic" is just meh!

Yes my favourite Harvest Moon! It sadly looks a bit...cheap?
It's probably one of those games that looks better in motion than in screenshots, like Doraemon: Story of Seasons or Team Sonic Racing (to name a few recent examples). As long as the world/movement isn't awkwardly slow paced like in Harvest Moon: Magical Melody (aka the chibi GameCube/Wii HM game), it'll be fine.

As much as I would have loved for the game to have a similar style to A Wonderful Life (or any of the other games where the characters aren't completely chibi), I can understand that they probably went with this art style since it's (more or less) similar to the sprites and artwork that the original Mineral Town games used.

Idk, I just prefer the original style of the GBA game

Isn't mineral town just back to nature with a few updates?
Yes, the Mineral Town games are just that, though there are a lot of differences between the two (besides the transition from 3D to 2D).
Here's a list of the differences I found in the following FAQ:
Key Differences between HM:BTN and HM:FoMT:
* Graphics are all 2D
* Days are half as long
* Tools take more effort to level up
* Mines have 255 floors instead of 10
* Many more things can be shipped
* Completely different forageable goods during all seasons
* 2 new tool power levels, 3 new tool types
* Maximum chickens is 8
* Maximum cows/sheep is 16
* No hothouse expansion
* Gift-giving system is more complicated
* Several festivals removed, some new ones added
* Animals gain affection when left outdoors
* Heart growth for chickens is as slow as cows and sheep now
* Can save anywhere, any time
* Several new subscreens, more detail in general on all subscreens
* Fish pond is now just a watering hole, can't buy fish food
* Can have people visit from HM:AWL
* Most Power Berries are received in different ways than in BTN
* Start with 75 stamina, Power Berries only boost it by 5
* Far more recipes
* You don't get your farm evaluated at all; FoMT is quite possibly the only
HM that does not in some way have an ending as a result

Just call it Harvest Moon: Return To Mineral Town stop with this story of season's crap.
Marvelous, the developers of Bokujō Monogatari (aka the original Harvest Moon series) can't use the Harvest Moon name anymore, as Natsume is the one who has the rights to it now. Because of this, they had decided to call the series Story of Seasons in the west. Granted, that's rather oversimplified, but you get the gist of it.

I doubt Natsume would ever give them the IP name back and even then, they probably wouldn't want to touch it after how Natsume's been driving it into the ground as of late.

Yes <3 the only Harvest Moon I could ever get into. (Not counting rune cracktory)

Too bad they wont allow same sex marriages. (PLEASE PROVE ME WRONG.) So I'll probably be waiting for someone to do a sprite swap of the main characters.

Can't wait to pursue Gray all over again <3 <3 <3

I spent more time with HM64 and that was my first, but must admit this is the best in the series and maybe the last great one before all the experimental nonsense. It would be difficult to ever play HM64 again after the advent of having buttons to switch held tools/items. Can't wait to jump back in and maybe devote more to it this time around.

Maybe the two secret candidates can be wooed no matter the character gender? just a thought, If not I’m pretty sure somebody will mod it into the game.

It's cool they're doing this - going back to basics might help the series a little. But, I swear, there has only ever been one good Harvest Moon game:

Harvest Moon (SNES) - Had the creator's vision pushing it, but development hit a lot of snags so a lot of content was dropped.
Harvest Moon 64 (N64) - See above
Harvest Moon: Back to Nature (PS1) - Considered the canon, fully realized game by the creator.
Harvest Moon: Boy + Girl (PSP) - A portable version of the above
Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town (GBA) - A remake of the PS1 game

Probably more since then, but I stopped following the series after that. So now we get a remake of a remake of the original vision which was an extension to an extension of the first entry in the series.

There are a couple move games that are great. Not gonna lie I think HM kinda went downhill after the wii games, but it’s picking itself back up. The only 3ds games I enjoyed was SoS and SoS 3OT.
