Hi,

I have a 3ds which is hard modded. There's a lot of files in the SD card and was wondering if I can get r'id of any of them without causing any issues with my DS. Does anyone know which files is needed and which is not?

Can you post a screenshot of your SD card's root directory? What files you need varies a bit with what exploit you have installed

For someone who has a lot of stuff, you have a surprisingly low count of root folders.

***

CIAngel
- remove any *.cia games out of it. CIAngel no longer works. You can also delete freeShop, TIKdevil, and tikSweep.

hblauncherloader - use Rosalina HBL injection. If you like to keep the HBL HOME Menu icon, inject the boot.3dsx to that.
dump - Log dumps?

gm9out - I'm guessing you relocated the out folder that was in the gm9 folder.

Yeah, feel free! Although, if you followed the guide recently then the gm9 cleanup script should have got rid of everything you don't need

Its probably games There typically around 1GB.

What are you using twilight for?? NDS games/files? If it was me I'd backup my NDS games. Delete Twilight through FBI. Reinstall twilight then put the NDS games back.

I keep an OLD R4 card for my NDS Games for use with twilight. That was its easy to keep everything separate and you only need to worry about 3DS saves (use Checkpoint). BTW 16GB isn't a lot. It might be worth buying a new SD card (64GB or over I'd go for a 128GB). Just make sure you format it Fat 32. Use GUI Format is its a card over 32GB.

Set the Allocation unit or cluster size
  • If the SD card is 64GB or below, choose 32768
  • If the SD card is above 64GB, choose 65536
You don't have to the games will play fine on the main SD Card. But Twighlight is compatible with "OLD" R4's as well as new... plus you can use YS Menu if you have a "Time bomb".

my SD card has write protection on what do I do
Please provide more details. What did you already try?
For full-sized SDs, there is the obvious:
Turn off write protection by sliding the tab on the side of the sd card.

Permanent write protection, independent from that plastic thing on the side, can have essentially two reasons:
  • Reader/writer defective – treating everything as read-only regardless of the position of the plastic tab
  • SD (also micro-SD internally went read-only) → means the SD is end of life. It wants to say: "Backup your data immediately and replace me!"
============

Next time open a new thread instead of reviving an old one ("necrobumping"), which is also only loosely connected to your question.

Good luck and have fun!
