I was playing, but suddenly the top screen beginns to bug and the game freezes. I rebooted my 3ds and my top screen is black! the Luma3DS logo displays on boot, but VERY buggy! it looks like a game with too much mods.
Anything works fine, but the top screen doesnt work! I can boot, i can enter recovery mode, i can use gm9 and i can use all my games/homebrews/other stuff like normal (but without the top screen)
i took out my battery, my cardridge and SD, but i cant boot without sd! (this is normal) If i try 2 boot without SD, it looks like the real black screen of death (black screens, blue light for 2 seconds, off)
I turned it on after 2 days, and the luma logo was glitchy again! in the home menu the top screen works, but its very glitchy too and becomes darker and darker... if i start any software, the screen freezes on this homescreen and it becomes darker 2...

What can i do? the game worked fine for months, but suddenly this happened!
NOTE: the game was installed as CIA
i dont know, if i use emuNAND or sysNAND, bacause i modded my 3ds long ago...

Thanks, if anyone can help me!

Your o3DSXL doesn't boot without the SD card because you skipped the Finalizing Setup that deals with CTRNAND Luma3DS.

You would be (relatively) lucky if the failure was limited to just the top LCD.

Since your o3DSXL is still able to boot but with the top LCD as black, the likely cause is the PMIC failure with suspected bad capacitors. Depending how good your soldering skills are, you would be (relatively) luckier if it's just those caps.

The unluckiest scenario would be GPU failure. Fixing this requires reballing the solder joints on the PICA200 chip using a reflow workstation or electronic oven.

it isnt a hardware damage, im 100% sure its the software!
i turned off my 3ds, plugged out the wifi cable, the battery and the gamecard+SD and leaved it 1 day. now i put it all back, turned on and anything worked fine!
what kind of bug is this?
i wont that happends again!
what can i do?
btw: the game i played was rayman origins (downloaded from a website (a popular website for CIAs, i cannot name :P, sry.) and yes, i buyed the game long ago and lost the cardridge!), the level was in World 1a, the moskito level (and the part, that happened was the black spikes part)

but, thanks for all that information! the first thing i do, is making another nand backup and setting up emuNAND!

why even bother with emunands when they arent needed anymore? Your not going to gain anything if that was a freak software bug.

Its not hard to "repair" the sysnand. In this case you need only a ntrboot flashcard and a magnet. For the case you have a hard/fullbrick i mean ;)
