It was sarcasm, I haven't hacked my switch. (Though unrelated I've played games at 480p to get smooth 60fps)
Its possible to do this for another game, using this file as reference, or is to complicated.
Only from this you won't find pattern. I have checked only 3 games for changing resolution - CTR, Crash Trilogy and FF XII. They all have one pattern - that before setting resolution they use GetPerformanceMode(). But how they set it differs in each game
And it only works with games that don't outsource their resolution settings to external file.
It's not complicated, but learning this takes time. You don't need programming skills if you don't want complicated stuff like avoiding instructions limits - reading documentation and googling are the most important one.

Can anyone help me with why this wouldn't be working for me? Do i need anything extra other than cfw? Im using Kosmos Atmosphere. Do I need to put exefs_patches in the root of my sd card or in the atmosphere folder? Im new to this and still trying to figure stuff out. Thanks for any help

Try to read 2nd line from first post and check if you have done everything as I wrote.
Format of game doesn't matter. Version of game does - 1.0.2 or 1.0.3.
This is a different subject. That game works with native resolution + added borders. PC resolved it by using ReShade that captures fixed image from game and stretches it. So I think it's not possible for today.
right docked_mem=1600 is default, but for me it's better to see all values in the config.
docked OC is not needed for this patch, however with this oc settings the game generally has less slowdowns in docked mode.

Yeah it works great but it's the obvious Ds factor you loose from it it's not like playing atari games on atari because Nintendo actually use to give a reason to buy their hardware+1

@K3Nv2 I did that using Citra for 3DS games. Bottom screen was my smartphone. Until I got the touch screen.
