Hi all,

I wanted to know if using backups I created my self has the same problems that I think I read about downloaded ones have. Mainly I want to know if I can do online things with my own backups. For example I have all the 3ds Fire Emblem titles with some of the DLC. Will I still be able to access my DLC if i go through with the backup > convert to cia > install cia process? Will I be able to purchase new DLC? I don't want to experiment and mess up my 3ds.

I remember there was a thing you needed to go online with 3ds backups but I cant remember what it is, any help would be greatly appreciated.

PS: I did a quick search but a lot of the topics the search pulled seemed unrelated or unhelpful. Thank you again.

I don't understand why you think this would be an issue, are you moving the backups to a 3ds with no or a different NNID?

Anyway, I think this is a non-issue. As I understand, CIAs are not headered which means Nintendo servers would have NO idea whether it was yours or not. I understand though that entering the eShop when you have DLC installed that are not on your account can cause them to be deleted.

You can absolutely buy the DLC for an installed CIA title though.

No it's all my own.

Right on, So if I install Pokemon Sun because I love to do Wonder Trade Challenges then that should be OK? I don't want to lose my living Dex and don't trust myself to keep up using the bank, had a coworker lose his pokemon because he neglected his bank subscription

there is a offline pkmn bank app that was made if you dont want to lose any. And how did he lose his bank sub? was it just he let the time expire or did he get his nnid banned?

Well, see now we're talking about backups AND saves. What you need to understand is that your 3DS card contains both your ROM image and your save files. If you convert your cart image to a CIA, the save files themselves will not be included. What you'll want to do is make a backup of your saves using a save manager, perhaps Checkpoint if it can work with carts, then get the .3ds backup off your cart and convert to CIA and install. Then you'd just need to restore your save backup.

P.S.: Checkpoint would work for backing up your saves, you probably have this if you're running Luma3DS.

@Lumian I was just going to back up Ultra Sun so i can have the cart with all my Pokemon but use the backup as my "Playing Game" if that makes sense.
