However you always run the risk of getting banned when using a hacked console. The only way to ever be risk-free is to have a clean NAND dump made before running CFW/homebrew. Without that, you will never be able to go online without risking a ban.

In the case it launched CFW without making a NAND backup first what would you recommend in order to get a clean NAND backup? I didn't really do anything more than launching Homebrew Launcher in CFW and then using OFW for like ten seconds (but i hadn't turn on airplone mode). I haven't used OFW again and did a backup, but i think it's pointless if it was after using cfw. I read that formatting the switch in ofw and doing a NAND backup directly after that should give me a clean NAND, is that true?

You can't ever recover a clean NAND backup if you launched CFW/homebrew before dumping the NAND. Its also well known that factory resets do not prevent bans as plenty of people have been banned even after performing one so it is not going to help create a clean NAND either.

What kind of backup i need for Atmos EmuNAND? Full emmc raw gpp or gpp partitions (sys/user)
EmuNAND doesn't use pre-dumped contents. It dumps and converts them live during the installation process.

Atmos EmuNAND? I think i read on their 0.9 update github page that for the making of EmuNAND, just use the tools from Hekate.

So what, would the new update create the EmuNAND by itself?

No, its going to work exactly how would make it in SX OS. You have an option in the bootloader menu, in this case it would be Hekate, to create an EmuNAND. You then customize what type of EmuNAND you want as well as any other options they offer then it makes it.

So I've got my swtich on 6.2 with an older atmos version. Made a backup of everything when I started (only had a small SD so many parts). I never went online after using hekate.
What's smart: updating the switch to ofw 8.1 to go online and having emummc on 6.2 for occassoinal nsp usage? Or keep the firmware on 6.2 and updating the emummc to 8.01 for newer games...
Or am I saying something stupid...

If your backup is clean, you can restore it, update your SysNAND for online purpose and create emuMMC. I would personally update emuMMC, if possible, to 8.0.1 because I care about latest games.

can someone explain the dongle to me? I get the need for an RCM jig but the dongle, is it necessary? what does it do?
You need a way to inject a payload. You need the Jig to enter RCM and a dongle where the payload itself is located. Of course it doesn't have to be a dongle. You can also use your computer or smartphone to inject the payload.

You can download DLCs as NSP and install them like a game.

Yeah. You could also use a smartphone. In addition, you could install a modchip in your switch where the payload is located. Then you don't need a jig anymore. But therefore you have to hardware mod your switch.
I assume you have to repeat this process everytime the Switch shuts down?

Thanks for the info. very helpful!

My own Nintendo switch was produced in September 2018, but rcm is available. Is there a case like this, or is cfw possible?

Only because you can enter RCM, doesn't mean that it's not patched. You can try inject a payload. If your console reboots or the screen stays black, it's patched.

I've been having trouble getting new game installs to work recently. It started after I installed an update for Skyrim, after that some games I had installed stopped loading and just said try to load again from the home menu. Deleting the tickets in goldleaf solves this, but any new installs don't load if I install them to sd card. It just asks me to set up my internet settings and refuses to load, but they work fine if installed to the system memory. Any ideas whats wrong?
