Hi all,

I'm making this post because last year I purchased a Wii U and at the time I knew absolutely nothing about it, or how to hack it. But with the help of this forum I learnt a lot and so many nice people educated me. I was able to hack it with ease and had absolutely no issues.

So now I've moved onto the Switch and I'm hoping I'll be able to get some similar help. Please forgive me if I've posted this in the wrong section of the forum.

Basically I have a Switch which I haven't touched for months, its just been sitting on my shelf. I want to get some use out of it so I decided to explore the hacking scene. My cousin successfully hacked his Switch using an Xecuter SX Pro and I'm hoping to go down the same route, the only problem is that he isn't currently in the country, so he can't help me.

Things I've purchased:
> Xecuter SX Pro (Includes: Dongle, tool to touch pins on joycon rail and software license)
> 200GB Micro SD, Class 10, 100mb/s

My Aim:
The goal is to use the dongle/hack to play "backups" off my micro SD card using the CFW. But I also want OFW on the Switch so I can play my owned, legit game cards online. I don't want to play any backups online. I don't want my CFW to even smell my WiFi connection, because I don't want to risk getting banned. - So to summarise. CFW = offline, backups, OFW = online, owned games.

My cousin has his setup so whenever you turn the Switch on it automatically boot the OFW, like it normally would. But then he can switch by using the pin tool, which then boots into an emulated CFW OS, which is also stored on his micro SD card. This is also how I want my Switch setup.

I also want to make sure I do all appropriate NAND backups and take all safety precautions before going through with it. So if I were to accidently brick it, I'd be able to restore/recover it.

Can anyone give some advice or any pointers? I hope I've explained the situation more clearly.

Thank you!!

My Switch is 2 years old. I got it the same time as my cousin and our model/serial numbers are exactly the same. So I know it's definitely hackable.
Model numbers don’t matter when it comes to patched and unpatched systems, they’re always HAC-001, HAT-001, or HAT-002 (depending on hardware type) regardless of whether they’re patched or not :P

he probably meant the model number, not the individual unit serial number :)

This is exactly what I meant, sorry if I got the terminology wrong.

I wonder how the serial number can be the same on two consoles...

No need to make comments like this. I appreciate your help above but we both know I obviously got the terminology wrong. No need to be a smart ass about it.

Anyway moving on.

I ran my Switch on the site mentioned above to see if its patched and I got this result.

"Your console is not patched. Hooray! Possible firmware version out of the box: 3.0.2"

Easiest guide:

(Assuming you have a hackable switch)
1. Update your switch to the latest firmware normally
2. Launch SXOS menu using your jig+SX Pro
3. Create a hidden SD card emunand.
4. Reboot.
5. Launch SXOS to pirate games.
6. Launch OFW to play legit games.
7. ???
8. Profit.

As a rule of thumb, yes, it's best to create a NAND backup before all things but since in your goal your SysNAND won't be modified in any way and you won't be pirating on your SysNAND, I didn't include the backup part in the steps.

Thanks so much!! I really appreciate this.

Wouldn't it be best to just do a NAND backup anyway? I feel like I've got nothing to lose by just doing it regardless, but all to gain if something happens to go wrong.

Exactly! Most people fail to understand this part, it's only a few minutes lost but doing this will save you from future bricks if ever that happens.

Okay so.. I updated my OFW to the latest 8.0.1.

Now what I've done...
> I downloaded a payload for something called Hekate. I've done a full NAND bin backup (29gb) and a backup of boot 0/1 files. I've moved those files off my SD card and into a secure location on my laptop.

Now I just want to confirm that the next step is to setup the Emunand before I boot into CFW to activate my license?

I don't think you can create an emunand without activating your license first. If you want a perfectly clean OFW without any trace of CFW bootup. Activate your license from their website instead.

Is there a tutorial for activating the license from their website? The only method I know is to generate a file from the switch and upload it to the website.

OKAY.. I got a problem.

I've activated my license. I have EmuNand enabled. But whenever I try to boot the custom firmware, I get the "Nintendo" logo on screen for a few seconds and then it all just goes black.

Make sure you're using the latest sxos beta since you're on the latest firmware already.

I definitely have the latest 2.7.1 BETA boot file on the root of my SD card.

But something else I noticed... When I go into OFW with the SD card inserted. I get a message pop up saying that "A system update is required to use the microSDXC memory card." Should I do this?

That prompt is for the exFAT driver update, don't waste your time using exFAT since you want to use CFW/Homebrew, just backup your files on the card, and convert the SD card to FAT32, and copy the file back.
