Microsoft has given us the official unveiling of the Xbox Project Scarlett, their next gen console. It’s set for launch Holiday 2020, and will be “4x” faster than the Xbox One. Will utilize the power of the cloud. Phil Spencer claims that it will have 120hz support and up to 8K resolution. Halo Infinite will be a launch title.

Worth noting that recently, Microsoft have experimented with disc-less consoles by releasing a digital-only Xbox One at a reduced price. If this was testing the waters for Scarlett, I really hope they find that people aren't interested and value the ownership of their games.

Xbox Game Pass and similar programs are excellent, but they are not a complete replacement for physical games.

The "x4" claim has to be a gross exaggeration. The Xbox One X pushes 6 TFLOPS FP32, if you multiply that by four, you get 24 TFLOPS. An RTX 2080, a four-figure GPU from NVidia, who are known for beating AMD on the GPU market, pushes 13.45 TFLOPS FP32. You'd need two of the most powerful consumer cards on the market to match that performance, and there is no way you can put this much compute power on an APU. I sniffed out the fishy when Nintendo said the Switch pushes 1 TFLOP, and I'm smelling fish now. Unless the thing is powered by fairies, it's physically impossible. Maybe they added the magical power of the cloud into the equation, which means nothing since we've heard that before in regards to the Xbox One. I'm waiting to see the APU die, until then all they say is gibberish.

Microsoft and Sony must believe their customers are completely tech illiterate. It's only because almost nobody owns an 8K display, and very few people can tell the difference between ray-tracing and lighting effects that simulate ray-tracing, that they can make these ridiculous claims. All this marketing speak is going to fall apart in the face of closer scrutiny once the hardware is actually available for purchase.

Highly unlikely being as ther logo is green:lol:

Which is also the opposite color of Red! ;)

Because I have very little interest in the Xbox brand given that every game is on PC at this point in some form or another (and that includes the OG Xbox emulator), I didn't go out of my way to watch the E3 event itself, but from what I'm reading here, it sounds like a case of those forgetting their history being doomed to repeat it. Think about it: they're talking about their system more openly first like they did in 2012/2013 (damn, my last years in high school. If only I could go back to those days with what I have now!), they're using the same buzzwords and buzzphrases, except now they have no idea what they're saying when they act like an SSD and Solid State Drive are two different things, and they're teasing raytracing? As in, a technology so new that the only game that comes off the top of my head that supports it is Shadow of the Tomb Raider? I'm sure there's others like that Quake 2 demo, but I'm more thinking about brand new/recent games than those.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

They should just make a windows box at this point

This.

What's stopping them from changing the logo to a red one just for the new console? MS needs a change of direction, and what better way to show it than than with a design change?
Xbox red are you serious  more worse name than its current one - even just stick with xbox scarlett least thts a beautiful girl name:lol:

Now, to be fair, they might mean polycounts, or some other more plausible metric. Xbox One X Enhanced games were pretty much "gimped" in order to also run on the standard Xbox One, the "Enhanced" effects were usually limited to higher resolution or higher framerate, plus the occasional special effects. Not only that, both the X and the PS4 Pro are bottlenecked by weak CPU's, so real-life performance may differ severely from what the GPU *could* push if paired with a decent CPU.

That's what I figure, they're taking several metrics into account instead of just raw TFLOPS. Load times will be about 8x as fast just by the grace of an SSD, so I'm surprised their marketing team didn't pretend that means 8x the power.

  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
You got a good chance of buying a used one and asking the seller how often they used or even ask for a Pic of fw and telling them not to update
  • RedColoredStars @ RedColoredStars:
Speaking of PLaystation. I see Evilnat put out a beta for PS3 CFW 4.91.2 on the 22nd.
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Don't really see the point in updating it tbh
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Yea you right, I thought about updating my PS3 CFW to 4.91, but why really, everything plays fine now. I guess for people that have already updated past 4.9 it would be helpful.
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Idk if online servers are still active that would be my only thought
    +1
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Thats true, personally I don't play it online at all, in fact, I deleted all wifi details on it once I installed CFW, so it won't connect and auto-update itself
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
I play most games that are on both PS3/360 strickly on the 360, but PS3 exclusives are really only games I play on the PS3 (You know me, I'm more of a Xbox junkie)
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
