The MTs aren't exactly game changing, so it's currently not a relevant argument. The gameplay can be hollow and redundant at times.. But most games in this vain are. The devs aren't ignoring player feedback. They're prioritizing it. There's a lot about the game I don't like, but that's because it's not a game for me. Not because the devs are incompetent. The general consensus is that since Forsaken, Destiny 2 has only gotten better.
They may not be game changing, but the fact that they have put more of a priority on them over actual content say a lot about the company. People also want to forget that it was them NOT Activision who proposed putting them in the game to start with because, and this is their own words, "Creating content was too hard". On that note, since their split from Activision, again it has only become worse with them taking away different forms to just earn the items outright. This isn't even taking in the absurd prices for them (usually $10-$15) In addition to this, despite players saying it would NEVER happen, they are now offering an exotic weapon as a pre-order bonus for the next DLC FYI, so that sets another bad precedent.
While yes, Destiny 2 did improve in Forsaken, looking at the whole picture there are many things that are still worse than the original game, for examples Factions being now non-existent, infusion requiring a great number of items, and players still unable to select the skill they wish to use and being forced into certain "paths" that have pre-selected abilities, some of which do not work together well at all. So in short it took them a year to get back to a lesser state than the first game at its end? How's that look good for any company?
Let's also not forget that, despite the players asking for better in game social features, they have refused to improve them in any way, shape, or form. I could also list the removal of gametypes, lack of attention to PVP, lack of factions with no word on their return, connection issues that haven't be resolved, bugs and issues that have carried over from the first game that were never fixed that affect the player's ability to play the game properly (attacks with a blast radius still go through solid/defensive objects for one), said items mentioned previously being part of infusion that no on wants as it serves no additional purpose, multiple harsh nerfs to weapons or items that were unneeded, the many, many weapons and items that go unused by the player base because Bungie themselves refuse to buff or improve them in any shape or form despite players asking for said improvements/buffs.
As for, the gameplay being hollow and redundant as "other games", I honestly don't get this at all. I have never seen "levels" in other games only exist to be just a gate for content, they usually improve the players actual power over time and don't hard cap at a certain point. When playing Destiny you can now be a max light level 750 guardian and still die to a light level 10 shank...tell me what other game would have you grind to that level and still be taken out easily by basic low levels enemies.
