Heya,

Just wondering if you could help me.

First of, could someone tell me if there is even a Bios for the 3DS?

and if so, how to do I go about dumping it?

I can't seem to find how to do it?

Thanks in advance

Okay, I must be mincing my words or completely missing something here. I’m asking about the Bios, that site doesn’t once mention Bios?

I’m confused, I’d also appreciate a little help, not one liners and links.

There is no "BIOS" for the 3DS. It has a proper full OS called Horizon. It consist of a kernel and several system modules. The OS is stored in the NAND and is decrypted and booted by the CPU bootroms (arm9 and arm11) You can find more info in https://3dbrew.org

Thank you my friend, this was the sort of thing I was looking for.

It makes sense now why I couldn’t find it online.

Look like he downloaded an old scam 3ds emulator asking for a bios.

No, I read up on that but I assumed because the NDS has a Bios so would the 3DS. Apparently not though, I just thought as I recently hacked it I might need it in the future and so best dump it now

I’m referring to my own personal 3DS, I do realise it was hacked a long time ago. I am new to 3DS hacking entirely.
The only thing you need to have an emergency saver in case something goes wrong (and at this point it would only happen if you don't follow instructions correctly or ignore safety checks) is a full backup of your NAND and it can be easily obtained with GodMode9 as someone told you before.

It kind of does, boot9/boot11. Dumpable with B9S. With it you can do some neat things like decrypting 3DS data on a PC.

How do I decrypt on computer?

So I managed to copy these over with Godmode, is there any other files? I know with NDS there was a firmware file as well as two bios files, is it similar to this one?

It you look in the readme, there are links to other tools as well such as save tools.

It's similar yeah. You should also have a backup of your OTP which contains all the console unique keys.

Haha, there is so much I don’t understand. It seems a lot more advanced dealing with the 3DS than with other consoles I have hacked.

Where do you get all the info from, for complete beginners?

I don’t know what OTP is or how to copy it haha

Thanks for your help this far btw

You can dump it with GM9. The info is scattered around the place, but most of what you need to know is in 3ds.hacks.guide.

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way

Just give it a try, but honestly if you have a 3DS you can play DS games without a card just off the internal SD card
