Pokemon Direct June 5, 2019 - Roundup

As excitement continues to build for this year's new Pokemon mainline entries, Nintendo will be giving us a 15-minute Pokemon Direct to give us some new information, prior to E3. Watch it as it airs live, or check back for the roundup of all the biggest reveals.

We get to see footage of multiple characters fighting a huge oversized Gyarados.
Giant Pokemon are a thing. Giant digital Pokeballs can catch the huge Pokemon.
There's some sort of soccer/football-looking stadium where the giant Pokemon fight.
New never-before-seen Pokemon.

New and old Pokemon will be available.
There is place called Wild Area, which have wild Pokemon that change each day or by the weather and time of day.
You can control the camera in this game.
DynaMaxing is the gimmick for this region, which make your Pokemon turn into a massive size.
Attacks also turn into Max Moves.
Can be used once per battle, and will revert back to normal after three turns.
You can connect to other players.
Four trainers can join to play in Max Raid Battles where you fight tough dynamax Pokemon together.

Leon is the undefeated champion of the Gala region. He has a Charizard and is beloved by the people.
His younger brother, Hop, is your rival.
Magnolia is the Professor who you get your Pokemon from.
Gym leaders will use dynamax Pokemon.
Milo is a grass type gym leader.

Zamazenta and Zacian are the main legendaries.

The games launch globally on November 15. A dual pack will also be offered, with a steelcase and both games.

So we are basically getting kaijus in Pokemon.
What the actual fuck. The gimmick is absolutely stupid.

Might as well catch a giant Tyranitar and a giant Slaking and rename them to Godzilla and King Kong.
Fucking stupid this is.

I can already see that we can only see wild pokemon in this " wild area. all others will have the normal bushes ... man.. and the camera control should have been in all the game.. missed opportunity.
And i still think this is less than mario or zelda in graphics deparment.

The wild area is everything out of the towns/cities. The website shows it is a mix however. Roaming wild pokemon are clearly seen. Exclamation points appear randomly in tall grass and bushy areas. When stepped on, we are taken into a semi-random pokemon battle. Like the roaming pokemon, the random pokemon pokemon are based on the current weather. I see what game freak did here. They wanted to please both those who preferred the random battles of the older games and those who like the roaming ones of let’s go. Nintendo and game freak seems like they are aiming to please as many new and long time fans as possible and may have succeeded!

Oh... The gimmick is now a size modifier? It's like they've given up..
It's what killed Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash on the Wii U.
I feel bad about this.
If they kept this nonsense for raid battles ... okay.
But why would we need this in regular fights when there's already X and Y evolutions and Z attacks?

Oh it was? I thought it was the fact that there were no feature and was very barebones that killed it.

Anyone else wonder if you could mega evolve then dynamax and just wreck the game. or what about dynamax and then use a z-move.
I would assume the dynamax mechanic replaces Mega Evolution and Z-moves for pretty much the entire game until postgame, like how Sun/Moon had no Mega Stones until you beat the elite 4. I also wouldn't be surprised if you can choose to either Mega Evolve or Dynamax once per battle, not both, or if it requires a held item. Since Dynamax replaces your moves with "max" versions, I'm willing to bet you won't be able to use a Z-move during it either.

Leon is either a genderbent Iris (Champion) or a distant relative (imo cousin) of hers and you can't change my mind.
If he's as popular as Kukui (or any of the other male characters), then I'll probably run into something later today.
He may not be a space fairy princess (first impression I got from Iris' theme/battle background), but I do hope his battle theme ends up pretty good and isn't another remix of the Pokemon main theme (like what happened with S/M and US/UM).

On the other hand, Milo's design disturbs me. He's basically either the overly-muscular kid trope or the baby-face guy trope.

It's kinda weird seeing that giant Pokemon are finally canon in the games, because they were a 1-time thing in the first season of the anime (giant Jigglypuff vs Alakazam; they were from ancient artifacts). I wonder how they'll handle that in the anime once they get started with that season.

Neat. Makes me think they sat around a table and talked about "okay, what can we steal from Pokemon go?".

Pokemon: breath of the mild?

Joking aside, looks like it's going to be a lot of fun. Hopefully the always needed difficulty mod will be out shortly after.

What can I say...there are many good things, but a lot of downfalls aswell. Firts, I'm very glad they didn't turn the whole game upside down like happened with LGPE. When watching the trailer, I thought the Dynamax was kinda boring and that they overephasized it over everything else in the trailers...and seems like people thankfully agree that it's a pretty awful gimmick. And this time it felt like they added the gimmick just because they did in the past, not because they had a good idea for it.
The character design is fine in most part IMO...exept for the grass type gym leader (I don't even care to remember his name) who looks too freaking derpy XD Feels like someone put a head of a 10 year-old onto a buff man body and called it a day...
About graphics...yeah they suck...it seems to me like gamefreak devs know nothing how to make high quality assets for an HD console, since it's the first time for Ninty's portable. Also seems like they don't know how to optimize for hardware, since their game barely runs 30fps at 720p...and even has no AA...compared to SMO this looks like a 3DS title running in Citra at 720p.
I still hope they can fix performance and graphics related issues until release(too bad they don't have much time)...
Edit: also box art is as boring as the logos this time (here I'm referencing the fact that in previous entries japanese logos were really cool, unlike englsh ones which just had the 20yr-old "Pokemon" logo with some text slapped on the bottom...and now the japanese logos are the same)
Would be also interesting to see what they do with anime...they're probably gonna overload it with the Dynamax gimmick and not give Satoshi any way to use it, but rather give him his own special thing a la Satoshi-Gekkouga in XY&Z.

I liked raid battle, reminds me of resident evil revelations 2's on aid battle (you fight very giants monster that coming to the island very slow), each battle can take about 1 week.

Oh yes, i know about raid battles on Pokemon GO.

Dynamaxing is eh.

Raid battle seems cool. Seems like if you are online you can meet up with anyone who is also online so that is actually cool.

Pokemon actually showing up in the overworld is great. I am glad more JRPG's are stepping away from random encounters and giving the player the option to grind and play the way they want to to. Plus, this could make shiny/rare hunting a lot easier.

Overall I am excited about this game. Will definitely be getting sword when I get the chance...wonder if those vouchers will let these be part of the deal....

dynamax is just lazy mega evolution imo, now they dont need new designs they just make it bigger and with only one super move of each type and lasts 3 turns ...

Hmm it didn’t make shiny Pokémon easier in let’s go P/E.

No the vouchers are not usable. I posted the bundle price earlier. They are not purchasable for preorder digital yet.
