'Shenmue III' gets delayed again

If you thought that the last time Shenmue III was delayed it would be the last, you'd be forgiven. The game was initially slated for a 2018 release after a successful Kickstarter campaign but it was delayed to August 27, 2019. This much anticipated title even seemed to be on track to maintain this release date after we saw new footage of the game a few months ago.

However, in an update to backers, Yu Suzuki & Deep Silver announced today that Shenmue III's release has been pushed back again, this time for November 19th, 2019. The Kickstarter news update reads the following:

Whilst almost ready, the game simply needs a little more refinement before being truly finished.

We feel that the extra time we have will help us deliver the true Shenmue experience players around the world deserve!

Shemue III now releases for PCs and PS4 this November 19th.

Shenmue 3 is like the anti-Half-Life 3. Half-Life 3 is like WTF why aren't they making this game they could print money. While Shenmue 3 they had to ask fans for millions just to make it yet it exists and Half-Life 3 doesn't. Odd.

They probably just killed themselves releasing so close to Death Stranding. This game wasn't going to sell much anyway, I think its safe to say most people who are going to buy it already did through the fundraising campaigns.

Look, I'm Shenmue's biggest fan, but a low budget, basically indie game, with poor visuals and unpopular slow paced gameplay thats in the middle of a decade old story isn't going to sell no matter what. This move will only hurt them.

I finished playing Shenmue 1 and 2 for the first time last year. The graphics were old, but the story is more important to me. The story is intriguing in my opinion. Thus, I am still very excited, despite some disappointment comments in forums. Definitely looking forward to the release. (And yes I am the type of guy who bought KH3 despite bad reviews just because I like the 1 and 2.)

Shenmue 3...more like Half Life 3.

Feels like this game has been delayed a dozen times now.

Meanwhile, Judgement, a spin-off of the Yakuza series, comes to the West on PS4 in a couple of weeks (wait for the PC version, 60fps on the Dragon Engine is SO MUCH BETTER THAN 30FPS-sometimes on a base PS4), as well as Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.

Ironic that Yakuza, a game made by many of the same devs who made Shenmue, was made 5 years after Shenmue's initial release and has had 8 main games now with if you count the upcoming Shin Yakuza, plenty of spin-offs, a TV series based on one of the games on PSP, a movie based on the first game that...shockingly looks like the game, but still has some silliness and is still, like most video game movies, no good. (the only reason I even knew of the movie was that it was literally called Yakuza: Like a Dragon, which is kind of like if they made a movie of Resident Evil and had the Japanese name as the subtitle!) Also ironic that Bloodstained, some drama aside that wasn't as pronounced as Mighty No. Better Than Nothing from what I remember (selling pre-orders as DLC is the most recent one, but that's honestly standard practice for pre-order DLC at this point, everyone. It's not like they're gonna not capitalize on the opportunity for people who don't have money for everything who buy games later to get Shao Kahn or Goro for MKX later than when their false advertising campaign would state. Not defending it, of course, but this is the 2019 gaming industry, not the pre-2006 one), has an actual release date and they listened to feedback from people who played that beta with no lighting whatsoever and improved upon it.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

How many times exactly? Update me

It's more like this game series has had about as many rumors of a continuation and teases over the years like Episode 3/Half Life 3, but nothing ever came of it outside of some mobile game that no one but the most dedicated of fans played.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

100GB for PC?

I hope is not that way on ps4, the game won't even fit on the disc. :wtf:

I imagine the space that the Yakuza games that have been ported to PC and are installed on my SSD will be more worth it.

I'm not saying that it is a problem, I just wouldn't want to install so much data on the system. Because that's a lot of time I have to wait between buying a game and actually starting it, or just hoarding that much on a HDD to begin with. Unlike like nintendo switch games that don't do mandatory installs if all the data of the game is on the cartridge, it's a simple plug and play with no wait time and no data stored on the system. (With exception of updates) If the games on playstation 4 didn't have mandatory install to play games, it would be a choice of the player just like the Xbox 360,
  • Install large amounts of data to reduce load times
  • Keep data free with long load times

Yeah, see what you mean. It is a bit annoying but games nowadays try to do everything, including making you coffee, so they are not getting smaller. Even games on the Switch these days come with a 'obligatory part download' cause publishers want to go cheap and buy the 32gb carts instead of the 64gb ones, leaving you to use your own space. Worst case, just remove games you won't play for a while. Playing a hell of a lot of games on my ps4 pro and only had to uninstall games once recently, to install Days Gone. Not bad!

Wait.. will Judgement be 30 fps on console? Even PS4 Pro?

For a game with such a great style that's really sad.

Yeah, the games after 6 other than that HnK spin-off run on a more advanced graphical engine. 0 and Kiwami run on the engine used for Yakuza 5, except upscaled for the PS4 (these two particular games are also on PS3 only in Japan, not that you'd want to play those versions of the games)

Take your time. I’d rather the game get postponed and be released in a better shape than released early and forever tarnishing the Shenmue name.

Given the opportunity I would back this game all over again. ;)
