Got it working some what.
Game loads then crashes.
Could it be the bios is an older version?

You're probably not loading Reicast right.

You need to hold R down then start any switch installed game, instead of starting the game it will go to homebrew menu, from there start Reicast.

This works for SX OS and will prevent the crashing.

So the guy running reicast wants to license it differently so he call sell it, and the people who contributed are forcing him to remove their code if he does so? And if he does, it can't be in Retroarch? Sorry, all this dumb petty stuff is kind of over my head.

Not quite. They want to relicence as BSD, certain developers who contributed code do not agree with this change. Switching from GPL to BSD is non-trivial as it allows the usage of code in closed source products.

Retroarch is de-facto unaffected. Reicast as simply been forked as Beetle DC, retaining the GPL licencing. The said disgruntled developers will simply be working on that instead. Reicast could still use that code, but not if they relicence as BSD.

Oooh, okay! So there's a good chance of it coming to Retroarch as Beetle DC (What's up with this name lol)? Thanks for the info!

@davidgf please provide us with an update on your progress, we are all very excited about this project!
Of course, no need to rush any releases, but updates on progress would be highly appreciated :)
Thanks

I wouldn't ask for progress updates at this point. The main thing I'm worried about is if this version of reicast is screwed over because of this nonsense.

Whatever he's been working on for an updated version is safe. Any code he already pulled from the reicast repo is under the existing licence, and will stay as such, so he can keep working on the fixes he's been doing and release them under same existing licence, nothing changes. If the repo does change its licence in future then he won't be able to pull updates from it without changing licence. He could either rebase to another repo (the retroarch one or whatever) or keep his existing code and snag individual updates from another repo.

Why would that petty nonsense even matter?

That's what I'd like to think, but with legal nonsense and that one leak of that chat log between davidgf and skmp talking about AtGames and some other company interested in their work on Reicast does line up with how much politics got involved with this emulator, RA, and who gets credit where and for what, etc., and other stuff that I, as someone who isn't a lawyer, wouldn't be an expert on, so an explicit statement would be reassuring, but it's not something I'm expecting in any way, shape, or form.

The irony is that if they do relicence as BSD, then Sega wouldn’t have to pay them a penny - they could just take the code for themselves.
