Its pretty nifty on the gamecube with digital out to carby, but i never knew until recently gc-swiss was a thing on Wii..

Also do you have to flash a unique IOS block for it? I thought thats what i saw skimming, but dont have much research on it.

Also why is 480p forced mode on Nintendont so broken, whereas Swiss has pretty wide compatibility and is sooo nice in that regard / actually forces progressive?

you dont really need swiss on Wii since there isthe beheamoth of usb loader gx whose settings let you choose what resolution you want and through which you can force 480p on usually 480i restricted games.

It’s really not the same tho. It barely ever works in my experience

Nintendont's 480P forcing, broken? How exactly?

I've used it in many, many games throughout years and I only remember one game where it made the game not work well, Second Sight, and that's happens just in one specific loading screen.

I don’t think it works. RE I don’t think it forces progressive for example

What are you basing your opinion on? I'm honestly curious.

Whenever I turn the system on the TV I have it tells you the resolution at which is running, and it makes a point in differentiate between interlaced and progressive. Whenever I run a game that does not support Progressive scan natively and I force it with Nintendont, the TV tells me is actually using a 480p resolution.

And even then, the image quality is noticeable between 480i and 480p.

I've never tried Swiss and, so I can't talk about it, but as far as I can see there's no reason to say that 480p is broken in Nintendont, or, at least, that it does nothing.

I run the Wii through a CRT so I'm not familiar with Nintendont's 480p output, but could it be a specific build where 480p started misbehaving? That could help explain why it works for some people, but not for others.

Not that I'm aware. Aside from the consistent problem with old model Wiis that was actually Nintendo's fault for messing up the official SDK (Newer Wiis patch the bug in hardware, resulting in the misconception that they actually had better component output) that is. That would apply to either all or almost all Nintendont builds.

Even so, the Gamecube has slightly better progressive output.

Ah, ok. 240p works for me at least. No flicker issues here. It may be a step down from the 'Cube, but it still looks infinitely better than upscaling through an HDTV.
