That’s why. Anything installed after making a backup will be lost.

You mean that everytime you do a Nand Backup (not a Nand Restore) it erases all your installed NSPs? Could you elaborate why?

I ask this because, in fact, when I did a Nand Backup this week I indeed wasn't able to run my previously installed games as well. Was wondering if it was something related to sigpatches. I didn't care too much though cause I had the NSPs in my computer and even if I didn't it wouldn't be a big deal to get them again. But I was curious about what happened...

(Ooops... Sorry for the double post, I thought it would be merged automatically.)

I'm trying to help someone else with a problem, and it seems this person has a strange problem: his Switch is registered as a primary console in another NNID, and he is using a firmware lower than the last one for CFW reasons. If he tries to access e-shop it asks him to update the console. The biggest problem with this, is that he's getting an error saying "checking whether this software can be played" whenever he tries to load a game.

Is there a way to deregister the console without going online? Would a factory reset solve this issue?

Hi,

I'm trying to help my Grandson with a problem. He was given an SX OS card and software, installed it fine and everything is working. He is in Airplane Mode so no online activity has taken place.

He did not do a NAND backup before installing games and he is not using EMUNAND (yet).

Question 1: If he backs-up all his game saves, can he do a Factory Reset, reinstall SX OS, and start over?
Question 2: Will the Factory Reset make it safe to take the Switch online, to download content he purchased?
Question 3: Other than the game saves, is there anything else he should back-up, or do before a Factory Reset?

I'm fairly technical (for an older guy) but not too familiar with the Switch and SX OS. I have searched but can't find answers to my questions, if there are pointers, please let me know.

Thanks for your help,
MCM

First off, welcome to the forum, MgcCpnMario.
Short version: Yes. No. No.
Long version: Doing a "factory reset" doesn't remove all traces of everything. If it's not a huge pain for you/him, I would say that it would be marginally safer. How much safer? I'm not sure. I guess the question is whether the marginal increase in safety is enough to justify the pain in the butt of doing the reset.
As far as getting banned, not all sins are equal in the eyes of Nintendo. Play XCIs is about the least concerning, homebrew games/apps are a little worse, NSP installs are a bigger deal for whatever reason and where you start getting into the "your more than likely going to get banned" territory, and LayeredFS is pretty much the unforgivable sin. I am curious how he purchased content if the system has never been online though.
I would do the factory reset, backup the NAND, and then create emuNAND. Then only use emuNAND for anything hacking related and never install firmware updates unless you do it through ChoiDujourNX and keep autoRCM on.

Turn on the switch rcm mode, go tegra and use latest hekate...

Use choi and update with exfat...is what i use...

@CanIHazWarez, thanks for your reply. I'm starting to see that this is not as easy as I thought and it may just be a "lesson learned" situation. When I said "He is in Airplane Mode so no online activity has taken place. ", I meant that he put the Switch into Airplane mode before doing anything in SX OS. He has had the switch for quite a while, maybe 12 to 18 months, but only started changing things very recently - before that, it was a normal eShop using unit... Does that change your suggestions at all?

Thanks for your help,
MCM

Considering that my whole EmuNAND (games, saves...) is on my sdcard and that I pull it out when I want to go on OFW + online,
Is it possible to get banned if you use a save editor on an offline EmuNAND?
I read that some people got banned with Layered FS (I'm on SX OS tho).
My fear is to get exposed by some residual save data.

Unlinking the account won't help because Primary account holders are able to launch games they legally own without being online. If its a game he owns, he will have to update and redownload it. If its a game he doesn't legally own, then it may be due to a lack of piracy patches which he can either obtain by switching to ReiNX (which pre-bundles them) or by downloading and adding them manually from here.

They should be assuming you're not on a Windows 10 computer or MacOS which will mess up the archive bits on the Nintendo folder but can be fixed via Hekate's Fix SD Files Attributes feature under Tools.

Everything that happens in EmuNAND stays in EmuNAND. The LayeredFS bans were before EmuNAND came out.

Don’t know about the primary console thing, but if you backup your nand, install some nsps, them restore, you restored to a point where you never had those nsps and they are not installed. No way around it to my knowledge

Hello, i would knowif there is any way to get unlinked my Nintedo account from a Banned switch, because i have some trouble to play game offline on my 2th Switch (not banned)

There is a plugin that we can restore all of files by factory, and make the switch unlinked with Nintendo account please ?

Hi guys, didn’t wanna make a new thread asking for help, so gonna ask here!

I’m a bit out of touch with my Switch, haven’t actually used it much since getting the SX Pro. I’d like to get it up to date so I can start enjoying it again! The current state of my system is:

Official firmware: 5.1.0
SX firmware: 2.7.1
Online banned? Yes.

I can see that the Switch is now on OFW 8.x.x, so I’m waaaaay out of date. What’s the best/easiest way to update me while retaining the SXOS functionality?

Also, do we have a way to remove users from a banned Switch yet? I’ll do a fresh install if need be, though it would be nice if I can backup/restore my saves if I do need to.

Thanks in advance!

You can update your firmware to 8.0.1 with the homebrew application ChoiDujourNX. Get the firmware files from google and put them with ChoiDujourNX on the micro sd card of your switch.
Why do you want to remove the user? You can backup/restore saves with the homebrew application Checkpoint.

Great, thanks :)

There are 2 old users on my Switch who I no longer see, so I’d rather not see their names when I go to launch a game.

Got a huge problem:

I recently tried to get usb install working using fluffy. Folowed all the steps mentioned.
https://github.com/fourminute/Fluffy

Now whenever I open goldlead or tinfoil when I'm connected with usb to my pc and after that try to close tinfoil or goldleaf with the home button the switch crashes.

I have no idea if this has something to do with the zadig driver or if I'm doing something wrong.

Everything is fine when I just install from sd card not connected to pc with usb.

It does not even matter if I open fluffy. JSo even if it's closed just being connected to my pc with usb and closing tinfoil or goldleaf causes a crash. I'm not doing anything in goldleaf or tinfoil. Just opening and closing.

I just got a Switch which I updated to FW 7.1 with the latest version of Atmosphere and games install fine with Tinfoil. However, whenever I try to run them it doesn't let me and prompts to connect to internet. I'm in airplane mode, but I think that this console may have been banned before I got it (I didn't buy it new). How can I disable/overcome the "Connect to internet" prompt which prevents me from launching any NSPs?

How safe is autorcm in terms of a ban risk and brick? I'm going to create an emunand and was wondering if using autorcm will impact anything on my sysnand if I ever use it and want to go online.

I also remember some concerns about autorcm "bricking" the console if the battery dies while its in use. Is this still a thing?

I think I watched a video where two games at 4K where eating just over 16GB of RAM and it's the one case where the 7900XT and XTX pulled ahead (minus RTX of course)

So my opinion is that they could age a bit better in the future, and maybe AMD will continue improving them via drivers like they tend to do. No guarantee there but they have done it in the past. Just a feeling I have.

but that game barely runs at native 4k

I think it was some newer games and probably poorly optimized PS4 or PS5 ports
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
they definitely will age better but i feel dlss might outweigh that since it looks about as good as native resolution and much less demanding

i think i heard of that, it's a good idea, shouldn't need a dedicated GPU just to run a LLM or video upscaling

even the nvidia shield tv has AI video upscaling
