I’ve tried everything I can think of to fix the error 16 I’ve been having on my console for a few days now. Hotswapping and using XboxHDM 1.9/XboxHDM23USB (Rocky5’s Beta 3) to rebuild the C partition, even formatting it and building a new drive from scratch a couple times, but nothing’s worked. I even put the stock dash on the HDD’s C: drive hoping to get it to pull up the set clock screen but still no sucess. Any ideas? I’d rather not have to buy a modchip (cause who knows what clones will do to your console) but I will if it’s my only choice.

History (in case it helps): My Xbox is a 1.0 with a Thompson drive and it had an 8gb HDD. The HDD started having the “click of death” awhile ago (but sometimes works if left unmoved for a few months (unpowered) and then promptly breaks again if the power is cut), so I bought a 320gb Western Digital HDD (didn’t think to check if it was lockable until after I had it and I got lucky) and made a completely new HDD using XboxHDM 1.9 and some Ndure files. That worked and it booted into the softmodded dash. (This is where I learned of the Clock Capacitor and removed that.) After that, I had updated the softmod using Rocky5’s Softmodding tool HDD method (using his files to mount the ISO as a disc). I wanted to TSOP flash the console, but I ran out of blank discs (ordered more) and HeXEn always gave me the “Cannot read bios file” error if I loaded it from HDD. (I had also messed up the soldering point on the top (pulled a trace off the board by accident) so I use a pair of pointy tweesers to connect the points (I know that works because if I don’t it says “TSOP not writable!!”).) I had managed to get a whole bunch of games and programs on there, and then one morning it started giving me error 16 and I cannot get it to boot past it.

That is strange. I only have 1 console and it has a Thompson drive, though the disk drive has never been an issue even if it does have issues reading some discs.

Only happens to me with sata hdd upgrades - 80 pin always fixes it for me once mod is complete

I’ll see what happens when I get the new cable in a few days.

Edit: My HDD is a SATA drive using an adapter with the Master/Slave jumper (always set to Master). Could that be the issue?

Hello. :)

Another happy "Error 16" solved.:yay:

Great job and now enjoy Xbox gaming now.

P.S. is it an 80 pin cable ?
The one I had before was the original 40 Pin cable. New one is 80 Pin.

I’ve got another small issue in that UnleashX doesn’t show the splash screen. I have 4 of them all named to the 4 files it checks for but none pop up. Instead, regardless of how I load it (from boot up or the LT-RT-Black-Back) it doesn’t appear. System is now TSOP hardmodded with EvoX M8+. Could that be an/the issue?
(The 4 arms around the “X Ball” to the left of the menu options move very fast as well.)

Hello. :)

Maybe the Splash Pics are deleted/overwritten.

The Location if i remember correct is in E:\UDATA\9e115330\0064122817A8.

The file is named UXSplash.jpg, Splash.jpg, UXSplash.png or Splash.png.

The 2 jpg ones were there originally, but then I copied them out of my system, changed the format to png, then put them back into the folder (total of 4 files). Same result. Interestingly, when I exited XBPartitioner, it showed one of the splash screens.

I used a different version on HeXEn and installed the X2 BIOS and now they’re showing up. I’m thinking that the first disc is to blame.

I just noticed, the splash I get isn’t any of the ones from the 4 splash files, nor does it appear on boot, only when using the IGR button combo.
