So, I gave my 3DS to my cousins for awhile (bad idea btw) and they've lost the sd card that was inside, thus when I go to system settings it says Sys 11.7.

I have another micro sd with me right now.

How do I go through this? Do I have to factory reset and use some kind of exploit or is there another way?

If it's saying "Sys" and not "Ver" in system settings then you should still have custom firmware.

You likely have a boot.firm on the root of your ctrnand that it's booting when the SD card isn't present.

All you need to do is extract luma files as you would normally to your new SD and it should default to booting from the SD over the CTRNand boot.firm.

Oh yeah, if I install CIAS, is a ban likely nowadays? or are there safety measures
I'm a bit hazy on that topic, if memory serves we're fine to install games but homebrew CIAs may or may not get flagged. (I've used homebrew CIAs before but have yet to be banned, so I'm really not too sure on this.)

I'm pretty sure folks recommend disabled sending of info to Nintendo in Settings and sharing what game you're playing in the friends list for added protection.

If anyone better understands Nintendo's banning behavior please do chime in.

It displays the "This is only for sighax/boot9strap users" warning for everyone.
If you're booting from boot.firm then you're fine, if you were booting from arm9loaderhax.bin then you'd have a9lh.
