For all that users/modders/modelers etc.
Which did not achieve positive final results.

Here you can get your frustration off.Post your results maybe with picture if you like.

My last "work" :

Destroyed a Noctua Fan + GDEmu Clone:

P1320115.JPG

Tried the Noctua Fan Mod (changed the cables as described).
After reconnected all,the GDEmu is constantly flashing RED.
Put back the original FAN and the GD-ROM Drive, all ok.

Good Job.:(

I bought a cheapo 2009 Macbook Pro for like $20 a couple months ago that was marked a P/R, wouldn't boot up. After tearing it open, the battery connector looked like it was fucked. So ordered a replacement, got it all swapped out...still nothing. So it just sits in a box, since it's most likely the whole motherboard is fried and it's too expensive to replace for what it is.

Also had an old Lenovo laptop, was like a budget "gaming" thing that had a C2D and a GT 210M for a GPU. For some reason, the thing just refused to charge or run off the battery. Tried a new battery, new AC/DC power jack, still just couldn't get it working. Don't recall what I did with this one, it's either sitting in a box somewhere or was trashed

iPhone 4, years ago. Didn't know much back then and didn't realise the digitizer and the screen were 2 separate components.
Also have a back-up laptop which has
  • No screen
  • 1 faulty ram slot
  • 1 faulty dvd slot
  • faulty hdd slot
  • Ports are faulty except for the ports at the back (2x usb, power and VGA)
  • faulty keyboard and trackpad
  • Wifi works but antennas are taped to the front as they where in the screen.
That thing just keeps on going somehow, like every non essential part has died except the ones I need. I have to run a tiny os like puppy to run it. It can't handle XP (though it came with it).

An old Toshiba HX-10 MSX. I was soldering components on the motherboard when my wife shouted a question from downstairs. In the process of turning my head and shouting back my reply I forgot to remove the iron from the board....... Crispy :D

Moral of this story, don’t fix things when you’re whacked out of your skull on morphine :P

Luckily it was just an old spare I have two of sitting in a box doing nowt.

I was reminded of an old Compaq laptop I used to have, was one of their "Vista ready" things that I had for a couple years as my main PC when I was young. The pins on the charger port for it broke, realistically all I needed to do to fix it was re-solder the pins back on and it totally would've been fine.

But I was like maybe 12 or 13 at the time, didn't really know how to solder and knew nothing about repairing those particular parts of electronics, so dumb me just took some copper wire (like maybe 20 gauge? it was tiny) and just wrapped it around the pins of the charger port to attach it to the pins on the board. It actually worked, for a bit...but would short out all the time, because the wire was just loosely wrapped and not really attached. Eventually it ended up frying the motherboard on it, and melting part of the plastic housing

Since then I've wanted to pick up that same model laptop for "nostalgia" purposes (was one of the first laptops I took apart and put back together, just after I found the broken charger port) and mess around with it, but can't remember the model number or the specs, just that it was some Compaq that had a socketed (I think desktop level?) AMD CPU instead of being the usual BGA.

did a full mod-kit (superCIC and optical out mod on a snes, roasting one of the nintendo custom IC's when testing (what one small drop of solder-tin could cause in the wrong place).
well, got myself a analogue super-nt for replacement...

Had a raspberry pi sitting on the edge of a vault case (was gonna be the most dorky handheld console you'd ever seen) but then scooted it over and the gpio's shorted on the aluminum and fried.
Also putting tape on the back of a 7 inch lcd panel and THEN deciding to pull it back off - although at least now I have a healthy respect for the fragility and priciness of electronic components.
Wasn't that recent, but still, sometimes I wonder about myself :D
