Wii U Wii Mode has far worse problems of its own. Wii 480p without the fix is better than Wii U Wii Mode in 480p.

Reading that was like seeing someone being punched... Even if it's true. I remind several comparisons and analysis years ago, and even you saying it had issues with chroma delay and other things, like being zoomed in and blurrier.

But why would someone use 480P on wii u?

Because one of the selling points of the Wii U was the retrocompatibility with Wii to the point of being able to bring any downloaded content to it, meaning it was expected to make a moderately extensive use of it. Even more if besides intended use you also factor in homebrew and what door it opens.

For comparison's sake, here are two captures of the same game at the same moment, one made in Wii, other on Wii U's vWii mode:

I'm not that knowledgeable about how the system works technically. But I figured if the system was going to support HD, it would make efforts to have the old games compatible with HD. How is done, I could not say. So i just assume it was some sort of "Magic" they had installed to allow improved looks for older games. I don't think it is actual magic, or that all things would be easy.

I just leave the system on 1080P and use the HDMI cable, because it should improve the display or least that's what the system is advertised to do, capable of. I haven't really seen a reason to use 480P especially since I'm using a HDTV. That would be like downgrading the visuals. I also don't understand why the nintendo switch also has a 480P setting especially when the only video option is HDMI. I just thought it made sense to use HD options for the HD Display. Only thought that crossed my mind is a tv that has only HDMI but isn't Hi definition at all. Playstation 4 only has HDMI and no option for anything lower than 720P. It makes sense to me, but Nintendo has things I don't understand. So It just come off as misunderstanding.

Glad I still have my 30'' Sony Trinitron with S-Video inputs... Now I need the cable to hook it to my TV.

No, WiiU has the Wii's video socket too (supporting all Wii video options, plus D3/D4/D5 (720/1080) over YPbPr cables)

(There also are plenty of VGA or less HDMI or DVI displays, though I doubt any design consideration has been explicitly given to those)

You have to differentiate between what the "Wii U" does, and what the "Virtual Wii Mode" does, because as far as the console goes, they're two different things. You can't expect that a new console to increase the resolution of everything related to the system it's retrocompatible with as if it was pushing a button. It would require a lot of work, because forcing standard definition assets, such as textures and HUD elements, would look TERRIBLE, so you would need to redo them on higher resolutions, besides all that other work that goes into tweaking everything so it looks presentable, or even works in a stable fashion.

When the Wii U goes into vWii mode, stops being an HD console and just becomes an imitation of a Wii. The vWii works at 480P because it's the resolution at which the original Wii worked. What the Wii U side can do doesn't matter. Just like PS1 games on PS2 have their original 240 resolution even if the PS2 is (or attempts to be) 480, or GBA games not using the entire screen of a NDS.

It's not like, let's say, the Xbox One's "Retrocompatibility". It's actually less that and more reworking old games to work with the newer hardware. That's why they have improved resolution, visuals and performance most of the time. That's pretty cool, and that's why they also ask for money for it.

Of course, there would be no reason to set the Wii U side to 480P having better resolutions, that it's true. But you have no choice under vWii. It's a "system within a system", as I said.

Also, I remember reading that Wii U had a better color range (or at least was more colorful) with Component cables than HDMI, but I've never tested it myself, so HDMI isn't the "only" good choice. I think Xbox 360 was the same.

Even 240P? I thought it couldn't do that, but maybe that's only on the Wii U side of it.

Oh, I meant options as in the modes you can select in settings... haven't tried that either (I only play WiiU on gamepad and personally hate whoever decided to force you to borrow an external display for the initial setup)

What does the Wii U have to do with what I said about Nintendo Switch only having HDMI output? :ninja:

They're the same when properly calibrated.

Wii U has no option for "full" HDMI color range. This is an issue if using a PC monitor that doesn't support "limited" range because the image will be washed out. TVs generally support both ranges or, if it's an older model, just "limited", so it isn't an issue there.

I just capture into my PC, so I have full control.

Hi there Extrems i have a few weeks using the mgba app for the Wii with the 480p fix, but i noticed that the colors are somehow washed and the 240p screen mode is missed. Everything aside looks great but i cant take off from my mind the washed colors is possible to fix this?
