Steam Link app now available on iOS, a year after initially being rejected by App Store

Last year, Valve released the Steam Link app for mobile, allowing users to stream their PC games to their phone or tablet. Except, a week prior to the release of the iOS version, Apple rejected Steam Link, claiming the app broke “multiple guidelines” of the App Store. Shortly after that, it was announced that the two would be working together to eventually release Steam Link on the platform. That process has taken a full year, with Steam Link having just launched for iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV. The major difference between it and the Android version is that when you stream, Steam’s Big Picture Mode launches, showing you features like store pages, community posts, and more. On iOS, those have been stripped down to only show your game library. All you need for Steam Link to work, is to sign into your Steam account, make sure you’re connected to the same network as your PC, and then you’re ready to go. If you’re looking to stream your games on the go, then you’ll want to look into Steam Link Anywhere, which, coincidentally, is not available on iOS at this time.

It's because they didn't like that you could browse the Steam store from the app and purchase stuff from there. AKA it went against Apple's "walled garden" guidenlines where other storefronts are not allowed.

Oh boo hoo for Apple.

They probably want to get into the streaming market themselves so they were scared of steam being better than them
Nothing to do with that, they just didnt want another store to be on their platform. I doubt you will ever see apple offer a game streaming service because the idea of it makes no sense, its the kind of thing google would do and then abandon.

Its not boo hoo, its their platform and they can do what they want. if people dont like it they wont buy it. Apple isnt in the business of selling all your information like the competitors, they need to make money in more legit ways.

They are already entering the gaming market with apple arcade, so its not that farfetched

Can you give me a better reason for them to not allow it? It doesn't break any rules. Maybe they intended to release it much earlier and thought they could keep it away for a while

@kevin corms (in a post you actually quoted...) and @TheMCNerd2017 have already given the most likely reason; that it was considered an app store and therefore against the marketplace terms.

Is it better to use the IOS Steam Link, compared to the Android version? I mean for bluetooth controllers like 8Bitdo, I don't know if they're able to connect to iPhones. (correct me if I'm wrong)

The controller situation with iOS is pretty horrible, you need an mFI controller, which is always iOS exclusive, for good performance. The older iCade standard is basically a controller emulating a bluetooth keyboard and is quite slow.

apple arcade is just a subscription service for games they already sell on their store, dont be so silly. the idea of having to run games for customers server side is getting sillier by the day considering a game like fortnite can run at 60 fps on iphone.

Subscription service that can offer streamable games. I don't know why you think thats a silly idea. The only one being silly is you. And they arent offering games they already have, they have new games being developed from companies like sega

because the idea of streaming games from server side is ridiculous and increasingly so. If an iphone can run fortnite at 60 fps in 2019, why the heck would I want to run a game on a remote server? This isnt video streaming where its just straight data being sent and then processed on the users end...

only thing I fear is that google has so much of a information monopoly stadia catches on anyway, much like the early days of android (and arguably today). Its a weird time where companies like google and Facebook can manipulate the public this much.

Its a trend that isnt stopping soon. It may be true that most people cant even play them since the internet standard in most countries isnt good enough, but that wont stop companies. We already have stupid stuff like resident evil 7 on switch that is being streamed even though I am certain they could make it run on switch somehow
