I’ve read numerous posts similar to mine, and it has me left with nothing but questions and even more ideas. From what we know Porting is Possible. It’s 2019 I wouldn’t doubt someone out there knows how to make it possible please any lowkey developers out there PM me. Because I have tons of ideas that not only me but other players would love!

Of course porting is possible - if you're the developer and have access to the original source code and know how to rewrite PS2 games to optimise them for Vita, which is going to take a team of coders weeks or months to do. So it needs to be done officially, on a game-by-game basis, and it's going to take money so it's only going to happen with games that are considered worth re-releasing which, unfortunately for the Vita, at this point is none.

Otherwise, playing PS2 games on the Vita would require emulation, and that would require the console to be exponentially more powerful than the PS2, which it isn't.

I’m purchasing a computer in a month, I’ll try and learn how to do so.

Any tutorials on how to do so? I know it takes tons of time, unfortunately all I have is time. I’m willing to give it a chance

If you have that much time on your hands, you're better off working, buying a PS3, modding it, then using it to play PS2 games on your TV.

If you want PS2 games portablly it'd be a lot easier to take a PS2 slim and put a screen and battery in it. And you're a hell of a lot more likely to find tutorials for that then reworking ps2 games for the vita. I think BitBuilt might have some stuff on making portables, and there's stuff on it a few other places.

With the gpd win 2 you can also play many pc emulators full speed on the go.
Even PS2 emulation seems to run fullspeed with many titles.

I think you missed the part where he said "access to the original source code". This isn't do xyz process and it will work. This is rewrite the entire engine and most of the game code. It's not going to happen outside of the original studio. We're talking about a team of experienced professionals spending thousands of man hours on a single game.

The only practical way to play PS2 games on the PS Vita is to stream them from a PC with PCSX2 and GameStream (with Moonlight running on the PS Vita), or possibly from a hacked PS4.
Some PS2 games have been ported (officially) to the PS Vita, by the way.

For porting or emulation? Because either way I'd say you're going to need to start learning a programming language or two, but for porting you're still going to need access to the source code so then you'd have to get a qualification, like a bachelor's degree, in computer science or something similar, then start working your way up in the game's industry by taking entry level jobs and building your portfolio, and then hopefully one day you'll end up working for the developer who made one of the games you want to port and you could say 'Hey, guys, can I have the source code for this game to make a Vita port?' and they'll probably say no, either because they don't have the source code anymore or because they don't want you working on a Vita port. But for emulation you could probably start by looking at PS2 emulators that are already out there and try porting one of those to the Vita - but again, the Vita isn't really powerful enough to emulate PS2 games so the best you'd get is a proof of concept running games at 1fps.

Appreciate it. Maybe I’ll try and make a Homebrew game for the Vita using unity. I’d wanna aim for a third person Sandbox game. A mix between GTA V and Gary’s Mod

SNES games run not very good on the Vita's native SNES emulator... GBA games don't run cleanly on the native GBA Vita emulator, up to the point to have to play them through Adrenaline for better compatibility and playability, how well would a PS2 game run if being played using an emulator?

The best option would be to recompile (if even possible) the original code of those games to be decently playable on a Vita...

While possible, doesn't makes things feasible...

Even on the fastest phone out today, it still lags in most games. I wouldn't use damonPS2 though as I've heard it be buggy, and full of adware, even in the paid version.
That's mostly due probably to bad emulation and interpreter. Now if someone could actually take the time to port a proper version of PCSX2 that'd be great.

Everything is possible, given enough time and money. I doubt there is enough money to make it worthwhile.

Having the original source would save you quite a bit of time, having the money to get hold of it might be a barrier.

Which game do you want to be able to play on the vita?
