And reicast apparently is the first hombrew, that also captures sound, when you use the switchs videocapture feature.

(Might have been a change in some of the libraries that get used to build homebrew? How is this a thing? Want this on retroarch as well (and scummvm standalone.. ;)), anyone experienced this with other apps?)
Yeah would be great to know the secret to this if @davidgf can shed any light, would be very useful for other homebrew.

Just a quick question. I know this is Reicast so it may not have the same issues but I've got redream on my pc and whenever I play crazy taxi it's like I get stuck ever so often with my wheels spinning like a spin out. With that happening often I can't ever get more than 5000$ on arcade mode.
But in the original crazy taxi on my dreamcast, I regularly score over 10,000$.
Does anyone know if this is just a problem with DC emulators in general? Including Reicast pc and Reicast switch.
Thank you

Lol, I get stuck on my real disc/hardware some too but it's much more frequent on my pc emulator.
I can't score higher than 5000 but on my DC I've got a high score of 48,000

The only thing I found to get out of it quicker is a crazy boost. XD

Do you have all the bins too? The cue is basically just a table of contents for the tracks on the disc and where they should be.

I got a .cdi game wwf royal rumble, it was less than 1gb unzipped. Besides sound issues and maybe some graphics looking glitchy, the game runs pretty well. Thing about this game it was just one file, other games come with track files. Is .cdi a combine of all files made into one file. Still wondering maybe it is the .cdi that does this but is there a program to save memory on Dreamcast games, jojo should not be a 1gb game and I believe it’s the same arcade game just ported to Dreamcast. I would use retroarch for this game but unless I’m missing a bios file or something. it doesn’t work on the switch. For jojo bizarre adventure the only thing wrong with it is the characters are glitchy as far as I noticed.

To save space back in the day GDI images had to have their Audio/Video files ripped/compressed so they could fit on a standard CDR, the resulting image are CDI's. So if you want the best possible version always stick to GDi's

People are telling personal adventure stories again - for the most part.

So to cut things short. Use .chd compressed .gdi files if you can. They are smaller than .cdi files and single file - and .cdi files themselves are a cause for sound issues - (video issues to, if they would work), because they are basically edited .gdi files with compressed or removed sound or video tracks. (To fit on CD-Roms way back in the day.)

(Both of the files from the .chd compression package (.bat and .exe) need to be in the same folder as all your .gdi and track files. Then you can drag/drop the .gdi onto the .bat)

So using a .cdi - and complaining about sound issues, is another one of this sweet "if only I knew what I was doing" moments. Just - dont?

Information on how to compress files to .chd format alsready is in the thread (last link in this post: https://gbatemp.net/threads/reicast...tch-horizon-alpha.538394/page-12#post-8635328 ).

Also Soul Reaver is unplayable as well because fo texture issues. And needs CPU OC to 1.2 GHz as well.

Main issues with this port so far:
- Texture issues. Several.
- Not having implemented pixel accurate alpha blending (would fix even more texture issues in Shenmue (faces, notebook)
- Most of the FMVs dont work
- Not having overclock controls in app.

All of the stuff above works in reicast on lakka.

Also - FMVs on lacka need temporary Overclock to 1.7 GHz - which is why in emulator OC options would be nice - so people could actually watch FMVs eventually. Or if this is an ffmpeg issue again (as it was with PPSSPP (older ffmpeg version needed, or quick code change - )) please look into that as well (see: https://github.com/hrydgard/ppsspp/issues/11490 ).

How to permanently patch in codebreaker codes into 1st_read.bin via hex edit:
https://assemblergames.com/threads/dreamcast-widescreen-hacks.58620/page-35#post-924548

(For reference. Start with the Shenmue example a few pages back - as it already has the hexedit codes. :) )

edit: Use simple patcher a few postings down. :) edit: Or dont. Sample patcher would be only useful, if you know which file the hex patches have to be applied to. Later on in the thread, there are hex codes posted for games that need different files than just the 1st_read.bin file patched. So preferably look for those instead/first.

Updated Shenmue 2 render and widescreen fixes - use these for Shenmue 2 instead of the first ones in the assemblergames thread.

edit: "Best" widescreen and ultra widescreen hacks for all Shenmue games in this thread (according to the creator):

Omikron wide screen patch: https://assemblergames.com/threads/dreamcast-widescreen-hacks.58620/page-52#post-949814

:)

Basically start at page 39 and go through the tread to find them (hex patches) for many, many games. :)

Decided to say "fuck it" and try this out. While impressive performance in the games I tried that I will list later, I do have to wonder what performance will be like once the MANY graphical glitches are ironed out and everything is more accurately emulated like it should be.

List of games and how they performed. I'm gonna take you on a ride!:

Capcom Vs. SNK 2: Ran fine, but the ruined ground experienced an apocalyptic calamity that left the ground a pitch black with Japanese inscriptions all over it. This calamity also affected phenomena regarding the Mark of the Millennium tournament where our entrants' existences are scrambled in a way not unlike a certain meme character in the Pokemon community for how scrambled up it is! THIS IS TRUE LOVE WE'RE MAKIN'!

Marvel Vs. Capcom 2: Not as many glitches, but the globe in the character select screen that really wants to take me for a ride definitely is off, and the main menu background is a more uplifting sky tile background that reminds me of old wallpapers from the good 'ole simpler days of Windows XP. Also, there are fluctuations in space time, especially when three people team up to show off the Power of Friendship!...or teamwork...or the enemy of my enemy is my friend...or...

Virtua Fighter 3TB: The background in the intro seemed to be mostly fine, but upon entering the training mode, it looked as if reality was being consumed by an empty black and white void that seemed to have been stopped by Axl Low from the year 2187 in Guilty Gear. The framerate wasn't perfect.

Virtua Tennis: All of the players have joined the Creamsicle club and wear the same color shirt as the US character in the game (and have suspiciously similar faces and hair), but in the actual tennis match proper, the Swedish guy I picked, as it turns out, is quite the psycho, having the face of one of his victims on his shirt that was off center from the front.

Soul Calibur: The title screen had nothing other than a menu and the sword itself. Considering the title of the game, that's appropriate. Too bad the title proper wasn't there. When choosing the individual upon whom you want to enter the stage of history, you will find that your sight deceives you, and that you can only see small triangles on the screen with the rest of the screen being black. Still, as someone who remembers his training for the past 20 years, I picked a man who lived by the Bushido code, and just picked a random opponent in training. Upon entering the fight, the screen was fine, everything was full speed, and was impressive speed wise.

In all seriousness, I am glad this has finally happened. Once this gets more polished up, I can say that, outside of Saturn emulation, I'd be happy emulation-wise when it comes to my hacked Switch!
