ffs. You’re running the CPU at higher speeds than was intended by the vendor, then saying that has no chance of damaging the system. Do you know how stupid that sounds?

With all 4 cores running at 2ghz at full load the fan can quite loud

again, i have louder noise by running the GPU at 768 and cpu clocks at 1ghz, than running dolphin at native res and cpu at 2ghz

you have risk to damage ur switch from the moment you turn ur system on, for me using this can only cause battery issues, and you can avoid them if ur smart enough.

i have clearly no idea, but you "doubt it won't get hotter because is above docked speed"

dude, you have NO fucking clue about what your talking about, your own comment proves it, ur just a scared little man mumbling shit about things you didn't TEST YOURSELF

I literally run my switch "overclocked" all the fucking day (with the charger connected obviously) even in horizon, and it's not even that much hotter to begin with, i repeat to you again, main heat and power consumption of the switch comes from the GPU

actually you had more chances to damage your switch using early builds of sx-os than this "overclock" itself.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

how can the cooling be a problem if you are not creating that much heat from the cpu to begin with

is worst in terms of heat running dolphin at 2x res, than running it at 2ghz and native res. that also apply to power consumption
Yes, you're right. I didn't test it. And nor should I after there have been reports of batteries inflating as a direct result of overclocking.

You might call it being scared, I would call it "better safe than sorry", but it doesn't matter what you call it, overclocking is a risk and it's as simple as that. Telling people otherwise when it has been proven that it's a risk is just not OK. If you want to risk damaging your Switch that's fine, but if you act like it's perfectly fine and not risky at all, you're just going to end up being responsible for damaged Switches. There's always a risk to overclocking, but doubly so in this case because you also have to worry about the battery.

I didn't use early versions of SX OS either, I waited for it to get decent.

L4T Lakka have Wii and Gamecube games support?
Forgot to add this to the previous post, but L4T ubuntu also works :P

For L4T Ubuntu, just follow the instructions on its thread for installation

For L4T Lakka, you’ll have to compile it yourself as there’s no releases yet

With CPU at 2ghz and GPU forced to 921mhz, and 2x or 3x resolution in dolphin the fan gets extremely loud.

You obviously don’t know anything about this shit if you think 2ghz isn’t potentially dangerous

lol obviously it gets loud if you force the gpu to 921, are you even fucking reading to me? this is crazy xDD

turn the gpu clock down to something more suitable and set dolphin to native res, keeping the cpu at 2ghz now you come again and tell me about the fan noise will ya? holy shit

ive been repeating that oc the cpu to 2 ghz wont damage anything just because its above the 1.7 binned shit, been repeating that the main heat and power consumption of the switch is the GPU, and u come in telling me ur forcing the GPU to 921 mhz, you are not even reading me

Which is better?
i guess L4T Ubuntu for the choices?
Depends on your needs.

Lakka is retroarch as a Linux distro, it works better in handheld than Ubuntu (everything can be controlled with the joycon and it’s more controller friendly) and wired joycon work. But you can’t do much besides emulation

L4T Ununtu can do most things regular Ubuntu can (web browsers, emulators, some games) but it doesn’t work great in handheld and isn’t very controller friendly (it’s intended to be used with a keyboard and mouse

Does the dock works?
Not in lakka, it does in ubuntu

But does Lakka have same perfs than Ubuntu on Gamecube and Wii games?

Dolphin runs about the same in both Ubuntu and Lakka

its not even comparable the noise you get at 768 with the noise you get at 921 mhz, and dolphin mainly use CPU, so you can even run the gpu at lower clocks than 768 and keep the emulator working at the same speed and with less heat that you can generate by for example playing games in docked mode

but its ok if you wanna deny it, i don't care anymore man

Run CPU at 2ghz then run something that makes all cores be under full load, it’s significantly louder than docked. And no, dolphin doesn’t make all cores be at full load

How are folks changing their gpu clock in Linux? I've a program running that changes cpu, but not Seen anything for gpu, and dolphin runs quite slow for me.

Its really kewl, but will prefer a native horizon version of this.

Serious question, why is there preference or adventage running dolphin on Lakka or L4T, instead of porting it to an horizon version? O:

These emulation developments are really promising. I was so excited when I heard the rumors that there would be Gamecube VC on the Switch (I think before the Switch was revealed), then after the system released etc. there was a lot of devs saying that the power just isn't there for that functionality and that was a real bummer. I really hope Nintendo can come up with something official, I'd gladly pay for VC versions of Sunshine, Double Dash, Mario Party, Luigi's Mansion and the Sonic Adventure games. If it came to it, I'd probably even buy the Mario Galaxy games if Wii VC ever became a thing since I've never played those before.

I hope Nintendo branches out from just offering NES games soon, so many great N64 games they could put out too.

My guess is because the drivers and stuff are already there for Linux.
While for Horizon, it would require some serious coding, as everything from the driver Dolphin is taking advantage of would have to be ported into code, functions and services from Horizon OS
