Hi,
After my Gf's constant whining that I have "Damaged" her 3DS XL (New style) because I have put on custom firmware so she can have any game she wants (yeah, still not good enough lol)
she thinks that the games "Quality" has degraded? I know a few PC games "Degraded" overtime and also trolled some PC cracked games (Alan Wakes Pirate patch etc) but I can't see how the 3DS could possibly do this (or even know it's pirated)
I could be completely wrong on this (which if I am I will sneakily delete this post or I'll never hear the end of it ;) jk )
Basically has anyone heard of 3DS "DRM" like countermeasures that can degrade the games graphics/quality etc..
Dan.

In theory, overclocking could damage something. In practice, since it's mainly used to give older stuff the extra speed new 3DS is actually spec'd for, at worst you'd have to turn off the overclocking for certain games if it was causing issues.

Some games (usually early 3ds games like Pokémon X & Y, Ocarina of Time etc.) actually perform better with the higher clock speed and more ram of the new 3ds, while others worse, or more glitchy, with the upgrades (Rayman 3D comes to mind). You should post if there are any games in specific she mentions.

As a side-note maybe she feels their "quality" has degraded because she now "has access to them all", in a sense that she doesn't appreciate the games as much now compared to before when she had to buy them? I know some people have that opinion and feel that way. Sometimes I do myself, sometimes I don't.

It's mainly Animal Crossing (which she bought anyway *TWICE*) one of the things she mentions is the sound on certain things like the "Stereo in peoples houses" that she says is quieter than normal. I'm wondering if some of these things could be down to the fact that she now has the new model 3DS XL?

This might very well be the case if we're talking speakers (or maybe even headsets). I know my gfs new 2ds xl has lower sounding speakers than my n3ds (not xl). Also, I just found out that my DSi has some sound issues when I insert headphones for some reason I'll have to find out.

Which model did she have before? Have you done any mods inside it?

The model she had before was the old 3DS basic model and the only thing I've done to the new 2DS XL (I meant 2DS XL before not 3DS XL) is custom firmware B9S.

Okay then it's like I said, the New 2DS XL has lower volume than the other 3DSs. Also there's the fact that the speakers are placed kinda awkwardly in the bottom and not really directing towards you. It would be funny if she actually notices this cus all the reviewers on youtube said it didn't really affect the sound coming out of it :P Is your girlfriend maybe a secret audiophile? Anyways her New 2DS XLs speakers is definetely the reason there's worse stereo I'd say. Let her try your 3DS to see if she can find any difference.

Btw does she use a grip attached to her 2ds? I know some of those block the sound.
