Hey Everyone
I just picked up a Cyclo DSi Evolution for $5 at a thrift store. This is my first flash card and trying to get it to work. It came with a micro sd card already and was loaded with games and save files so I'm assuming it was working for the original owner. I've tried it on a DSi and a 3DS and both times it shows it at MechWarrior but when I try to load it does nothing and an error message comes up saying it must be turned off. unfortunately there was no dongle or anything to connect it to a computer to change the firmware or anything. On the sd card I saw a file that seemed to mention version 2.3, but that could just be whats on the sd card and not the actual cyclo version. So I guess my question is what can I do to try and make this thing work? Just make a few different miscro sd card with different versions on them of the boot file and see if any work?

Hmm, so its my systems and not the card itself. I guess that's good to know. is it difficult to downgrade the dsi or cfw the 3ds? its not a big deal if the card doesn't get used...it was only $5 lol

Unfortunately CycloDS disappeared a long time ago and dropped all support for its cards, it has no firmware that would support the modern DSi or 3DS versions. You can still use it on a hacked console or an DS/DSL though of course. Despite its age it's still pretty sought after for its "dsi-mode", which, if you can find the proper dumps for, can play dsi-enhanced titles with their dsi features, such as camera access, a feature which modern homebrew such as nds-bootstrap still doesn't support yet. Usually if you play those games without the original cartridge they run in ds-mode. Anyway tell me if you're looking to sell it.

DSi Mode only came out for the CycloDS iEvolution only. The mode itself isn't 100% stable, it doesn't work for some games, leading to a crash upon boot. It generally feels unfinished honestly. A lot of the game newer games after 2011 don't work on the flashcart either unless you use AP patches or cheat codes, some ROM hacks in general don't work on it either.

That must be rough. Productive I'm sure but hard to balance with daily life

@Maximumbeans, Indeed. I've been working on getting this Infecutus chip to work on my PS2. But after soldering, I realised that a plastic piece was missing from the power ribbon cable to the power and eject buttons.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Now I could go with soldering the contacts from the cable to the connector on the mobo, but doesn't sound like a good permanent solution.

Man, that's beyond my brain  I'm no good with hardware for now. I'd like to get into hardmods in future though

@Maximumbeans, Maybe start practice soldering. Get a cheap-ass soldering iron and follow some good YouTube tutorials.

Least my experience has gotten better than over a decade ago. My iron would constantly bump into components and break them.

Sounds good. I actually did soldering but like 16 years ago for school so uuuuh probably rusty haha

@Maximumbeans, Same here. I did soldering at school from a teacher who I honestly liked since he had plenty of good electronics experience.

It was like all clear and fancy. Tbf I'm not too experienced with chess, but would like to learn someday.
