Hi there!!

After a lot of time away from the 3DS (away from any video-game at all, too busy with college and work) I finally had some free time and decided to get back to it, since newer FWs were released and I still had rxTools on emuNAND 11.2 I could no longer play online and tried fixing the issue with 3DSNUS (using the friends system-module Title ID) as I did in the past quite a few times, but so much time away from doing this... I might have done something wrong (yes yes, shame on me :'( )... when I booted the 3ds again it would no longer display the UI (like, clock, manual, start game, etc) and wouldn't start any games any longer... so I tried to restore the emuNAND to how it was previously and it worked but now it just won't show all of my games anymore... tried going back to 11.0 emuNAND and the same happens... so I guess it's finally time...
How do I get my 3DS back to a "clean" state in order to install a more recent CFW?
My console is a regular O3DS with unlinked NANDs, sysNAND is 9.2.0-20U and emuNAND is RX-E 11.0.0-33U.

Note: If by any chance this is a known problem and there is an easy workaround rather than updating to a more recent CFW I'm fine with that, I only planned to use it for mhxx anyway.
Note2: Lunch break is over so I'll read and work on procedures when I'm back at home, but thanks a lot in advance!

Updating to a more recent cfw being luma3ds. It is actually easier than what you are running right now. Look at https://3ds.hacks.guide/ about doing so. It goes over how to move emunand over aswell.

Yes, that's the guide I'm about to follow, but... I know I posted it somewhere on gbatemp years ago (will try to find it), my 3DS was a gift and already came with rxTools and many workarounds on it, so currently I do not know exactly everything that it is running, so... I'm afraid if I get to just go blindly from my current setup to luma3ds I might screw up somewhere. Removing my current setup entirely and going back to a clean state would be better, even if I lose my emuNAND data, games and all of it, I can just reinstall them, and the saves? Well, I have old backups and I played mhxx from scratch to 999 on two different save files, sure I can do it again even I end up losing my savedata!
My trouble is... how to return to that clean state, as if the 3DS had never run any CFW or anything, just the regular old 9.2. From that clean state I'll start installing Luma

--
EDIT: it seems it wasn't on gbatemp I made a post when I had just earned that 3DS... it had a bit more specifications on what exactly I run on it but it's lost, brought it up thinking I could find more info on some past post but apparently not...

Follow the steps carefully and you don't lose any data ;)

Uninstall menuhax first if you have it, otherwise you'll get a black screen on boot after installing B9S. To do this, just boot into sysNAND and change the home menu theme. Then you can follow the guide as written. Make sure to follow the optional move emuNAND section when offered.

Hello! First post here, and I'm very new to 3DS hacking (days new) so let me know if I need to add/adjust anything in my post. I'm getting a An exception occurred: ARM9 data abort error after booting into the main system OS I guess. Some device info below:

  • New 3DS XL
  • Latest 11.9.0 firmware
  • CFW via Seedminer + Fredtool route (From 3ds.hacks.guide)
  • Just set mine up this Friday/Saturday, so all CFW/homebrew app stuff is pretty much as latest version as it can be.

Last night, I was adding a new 3DS game in .cia format through FBI. I usually run the Install and Delete CIA option. After installing the game, it didn't seem to delete the .cia file. I tried deleting it again in FBI, then via FTP, and finally directly off the SD card through my PC.

When I tried rebooting my 3DS after that, I noticed it took longer than usual to boot, and when it finally did, my custom themes weren't loading, and then I got a an exception occurred 3ds arm9 data abort error. I see my initial custom splash screen, and can enter the Luma menu. I can also see the main OS screen for a few seconds, but then I get the error screen. I can boot normally without the SD card inserted, albeit without any of my themes/games (obviously). I can load the SD card on my computer without issue, so it doesn't seem like it's a problem with the SD card itself.

From some of the threads I've found here and on Reddit, it sounds like maybe I have corrupted title data? I've only had the 3DS for a few days, so if I need to start fresh, I'm fine with that. But if there is a way I could resolve this issue without doing that, it would be more convenient.

If not, would it just be a matter of backing up data off the SD card, then somehow either starting from a fresh CFW point, or using the initial backup that I made when following 3ds.hacks.guide?

EDIT: I just tried using the original 4GB SD card with the CFW and custom themes/CIAs as I had left it before copying everything over to my current SD card. That booted up fine, so it doesn't seem to be anything with the with the system itself, if that helps narrow anything down.

Try deleting home menu extdata. https://3ds.hacks.guide/troubleshooting

Thank you for the reply Quantumcat. I appreciate it! After getting some more time to check things after work though, it looks like the SD card is corrupt. Trying to transfer some files from the card to my PC results in corrupt file warnings, and it's just having some issues in general. I'm going to pick up a replacement one this evening, and will look at porting over what I can while using my original 4GB card as a base.

Is there a method of transferring Face Raider save data from one 3ds to another using homebrew (both 3ds' have cfw)? I want to sransfer my current save to another 3ds to do something and then once I'm done I want to swap it back to my main 3ds. (The front camera doesn't work on my main 3ds and I want to transfer it to my other 3ds that has the working camera and then transfer it back into my main 3ds)

Checkpoint does not show system titles (by default). To change this edit the file "SD:/3ds/Checkpoint/config.json"

"nand_saves": false,→ "nand_saves": true,

You may have to hold (B) for a while after starting Checkpoint to reload the title list. On my O2DS no extdata for Face Raiders showed up, even after editing the config file and reloading title list. I do not know:
  • a) If I did something wrong / could not find the correct options
  • b) extdata is necessary; probably yes, after starting Face Raider (for the first time in all the years) it stated something like "creating extra data"

JKSM on the other hand, could backup save data and extdata on the test device. If the target 3DS with the good camera has no Face Raiders save yet, the game will not show up in the list (creating a save and extdata before). The same as with Checkpoint: You may have to reload the title list.

Ok, quick question for anybody who knows how to randomize pokemon games. So i just randomized pokémon moon, and most of the stuff works... except a couple things. The secondary shops have not been randomized and TM's have also stayed original, even though i've randomized both. I think it has to do with redoing the exefs file, but since i redo the entire rom instead of just aplying patches, i don't know what to do with the compressed exefs pk3ds gives me. Any ideas?

Also, don't know if it is because i'm just picking up the files randomized and rebuilding the cia from them instead of replacing the original files with the modified ones, but the 3d models for the starters have not been replaced. Might be because in Moon the "randomize starters" option is in the romfs section instead of the cro one, and thus it doesn't create the new models? Because in Omega Ruby i managed to do it.

Anyway, thanks in advance.

Hey, thanks for the quick reply, I tried reading the thread you've sent but honestly I didn't understand anything, I just basically followed the guide up until this point:
upload_2019-5-11_11-33-55.png
and when I tried launching godmode9 it just launched the ordinary home menu.
As I said I really don't understand any of the technical stuff and I just followed the guide so im not sure what information is relevantb I was just kinda hoping that by stating I followed the recent guide the pros here would know which versions I used
anyways thanks again for the quick reply and for any future assistance
