Here I am, yet again with another PC that barely works.
I updated this PC to Ubuntu 18.04 today, and I´m stuck at this awful resolution and none of the settings would let me go any higher.
I´m connected to VGA using a Hitachi TV (which can go up to 1920x1080), and it comes up as an unregoniced monitor. Even when checking the ¨Updates¨ section, it says all the drivers are installed.

For anyone wondering, this is a nVidea GeForce 6200 TurboCache. I don´t know what command to use in terminal, since I can´t find anything online.

Once again, any help is appreciated, and this is now the 3rd time where I roll around with a driver issue. I´m sorry that I come here so often with constantly the same problem over and over again.

actually you just need to edit this in the Options... Options -> Display
and there you should see Full HD as option :D

Ubuntu wiki is where you will find all the info.

Follow instructions in that page to install the correct nvidia driver.

I m using an other distro but i use ubuntu from time to time, i don t remember all the menus now but there should be an app to set and add ppas, otherwise it s easy to add them with a terminal (add-apt-repository command)

After that, try to use the ubuntu driver manager to install the driver, otherwise install it manually and follow the wiki.

make sure that your TV is supporting it like it should... check these options
I'm 100% sure that my TV supports higher resoultions. During a standart setup, it would go to 1920x1080 for a brief moment, try to continue the installation, but then it ends on a black screen with no activity whatsoever.
I had to enable "nomodeset" during the setup and it worked fine after that in a 640x480 resolution, but now it's stuck on that one.

You may need to remove that when the proper driver is up and running.

It is a common issue with older cards becuase they are not supported very well today

Not now, install the drivers first and make sure they are set correctly
I'm still way too confused...
Am I suppost to download something? I checked and identified my chip, and the rest of this is all ruff-translated from Italian to English.

I'm sorry for my stupidity here, this is all very new to me...

Uh?
Wrong lang, my browser is stupid...use the english wiki of corse.

I don t know all the steps because i don t have ubuntu right know, look for the ppa that contains the drivers for card, then add the ppa and install the driver.

This is the first step, also make sure it does work on your ubuntu version, in case the driver has issues with 18.x

I'm now in a dead end. There is no proper tutorial and "sudo pacman" isn't longer availible.
If someone who has Ubuntu and actually can help me, then that would be great.
I'll try to help you out, friend. What I would recommend is installing the graphics drivers ppa. You could be missing the GPU's drivers.

To do this, open a terminal and enter these commands:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:graphics-drivers/ppa

sudo apt-get update

then reboot your computer to see if there is any change. If not, let me know.
