It's absolutely cool to warn people of the consequences of this. I just don't think they're being malicious or moronic since certs and their function are a topic of open discussion in the context.

Hm... fair enough. I just don't particularly trust /hbg/ especially because of how they treated not-cdn. They've also been complete dicks to other scene releasers.

the whole point of sharing your cert with hbg is that they'll use it for dumping until it gets banned

i bought a damage switch, dumped it and then sent it for repair. nintendos repair place proceeded to break it worse than when sent and they swapped it out for an ipatched unit. i got a spare prodinfo just laying around

not sure if it would work though

Took way too long to find a reasonable post like this one. They clearly state what the certs are used for, and afaik they havent even gotten any of the banned certs banned.

That is a stupid perk though giving up your cert to get unlimited download and bandwidth, you can spend like 20 bucks and get a 1fichier and download all the contents you want.

Could be about safety reasons. If you use a single cert to scrape hundreds of game updates Nintendo would spot that easily. Spread hundreds of requests on hundreds of certs and Nintendo will have more trouble spotting it as it looks like human behaviour.

Donating doesn't give you "Unlimited download and bandwidth".

Yes, and how do you think they end up getting that content? Everyone wants free stuff without worrying about what others have to sacrifice. You need these certs to get the content that you want and need.

You don't always have to use HBG shop, there are other sources of NSP/XCI, I rather pay 20 bucks and get a 1fichier account than give up my unbanned cert, that would be a 300 dollars paperweight, I mean for people only do offline stuffs obviously they might not care, but the general public wants to keep their cert, If I was gonna donate one, I would donate ban one just to troll them.

Its not just HBG that needs donations and certs to get its content! I don't see how you don't understand that? Someone, somewhere in the end of the day has to obtain this content in a legitimate way which cost money. I rather give 20 dollars to a team that provides the content rather than a website that just hosts it. You got to look at the bigger picture.
