The term millennial needs to be dropped, it's getting ridiculous that they're now including people approaching/in their 60s as millennials. At least that's some of the older generation I know who suffer from VVS.

I could imagine this design being useful for various things though e.g. coding, letter typing, etc. One reason I have my Dell monitor was that it had a nice stand which could easily rotate.

In the article itself it is clearly mentioned not to be used for watching tv in that aspect ratio but more like a phone enlarger or software that can be used like that for multiple purposes. Also it's not meant as a monitor but as a bigger screen you can use anywhere NOT TV wise. Ofcourse you can use an ultrawide monitor but it clearly isn't the same seeing an ultrawide monitor doesn't nearly have the same size as this plus meant for an entirely different audience. I really don't get why people constantly bring up the monitor thing when that is a whole other thing by itself or the TV watching thing when Samsung clearly states that that aspect ratio is not to be used to watch tv but different purposes alltogether.
The reason people keep bringing up the monitor/TV thing is simple, if this is meant as a "phone enlarger", then the 1600$ price tag is literally retarded, especially since it will just upscale things to show up in the 43inch screen, meaning it will look like shit!:P Want a "phone enlarger"? There are THOUSANDS of screens that are meant for that use for just a hundred bucks. For 1600$ it must absolutely offer AT LEAST as much as other screens do, so monitor/TV are the base requirement, otherwise a 200$ screen does exactly the same, only for a fraction of the price. As for the "use anywhere" part you said, 43inches isn't that simple to fit in some places, just because the stand it comes with supports it even when rotated it doesn't mean it's any better than using external mounts for the screen like it's currently done.

But it's advertised for an asian market where i do see people using this more than a smaller ultrawide monitor. That price tag is kinda normal tho for a new product. I bought my LG 1440P ultrawide curved monitor back in the day for 1400 euro. That's just how it is when a new product launches so i don't see anything wrong with that price tag. Also again it's more used as a piece you put in a corner. I can see myself sitting in the kitchen while streaming my phone to that tv using my phone more as a remote touch screen instead of putting up a wall mount sideways to have the same effect wich just doesn't work for me. I really don't see anything wrong with the price and you can still use it as a normal UHD tv. Most ultrawides when they came out were around that 1000 mark so def not a fraction of that price. You have to look at pricing when it first came out compared to a product that is much longer out and ofcourse is gonna be cheaper. If i would compare all products like that it wouldn't even be a comparison. You compare prices with inflation and what it used to cost when it came out. Also Samsung clearly states this is meant for the Korean market and not the Western market wich react differently to things like this so what is the fucking big deal then if it's not meant for the Western audience but only for the Asian audience wich do care about stuff like this ? Also it's a QLED. I really doubt a monitor manufacturer can make an ultrawide UHD monitor of that size in QLED for less than a 1000 bucks. Price is entirely justified. Mine is an OLED 1440p ultrawide and is smaller in size for 1400

Finally, a TV that can orientate itself properly, to match my position when lying on my side in bed..... Money well spent designing that thing.

Some notes. :)

TVs usually cant be used for street signage (unless you configure them right ;) ) because of the brightness demands in those situtations.

Samsung coming to market with one of those is interesting, because they now think, that there is popular demand, because of "vertical video" folks. Not because of Shoot em Up or Pacman fans. :) (Otherwise those TVs would have been a thing over the past three decades. :) )

The marketing material shows a bunch of designated ehm "technologically challenged" people to conform with their target demographic.

;)

Just as information, I'm not commenting. ;)

I think this will lead to a problem with bloodflow in your brain, during activity phases. (Considering that we are also still reading, sitting up. Just saying. ;) )

lol Samsung, you're a month late for April fools...
...tv's are either/or in terms of orientation, dependant solely on how the device is mounted. I'd totally have a rotatable mount for my 49" tv if I had the space to mount it, just for the "tate" shmups and other arcade games I play - but a dedicated screen... no.
I guess they'll be marketing "horizontal" phones next!

I've... I've never once felt encumbered or irritated by a horizontal television. I highy doubt anyone else has, either.

I can't imagine this selling well at all...

Dude, you don't know how much I've been wanting the authentic experience of playing Ikaruga without having to worry about a fire or explosion as indicated by the warning the Switch port gives before changing the screen orientation! /s

Yeah, but they are basically selling an automated mount with electronic rotation here anyhow. :)

Premium TV! ;)

Masked it out to see what it would look like - vertical - turned off. Thought it might look better actually, but...

- no, 2001: Space Odyssey Monolith it is.. ;)

Well, clearly my sarcasm is lost in text :D

That aside, I don’t see a blood flow problem, I’ve been sleeping on my side for over 40 years. And lying on my side watching TV on the sofa.

Yes, but gravity.. ;)

Thought that it might be different between a sleep and an activity state - but it might be something else, like you loose peripheral vision on one side. ;)

You usually dont do - even low key activities lying on your side - is where I'm coming from. Even reading or smartphone browsing.

Quite a few "normal" screens have a less than ideal vertical viewing range, especially if you care about the colours it puts out (or even just consistency of colours rather than colours conforming to some spec somewhere). If you turn it 90 degrees to get yourself a fancy portrait monitor (quite nice for a lot of things actually) then that suspect vertical range is now your horizontal range and that gets more fun, especially as said monitor is likely beside your normal screen.

If they have either designed around it or discovered a method to allow it then I am actually interested here.
