Pokemon Pass mobile app released, use it at Target to get a free shiny Pikachu and Eevee

The Pokemon Company has stealthily released a new Pokemon app on the App Store and Play Store called Pokemon Pass. By using the app, players will earn goodies such as stickers, and perhaps more interestingly, Pokemon to send to your game. Apparently replacing having to bring your handheld with you to event locations, you can now visit participating retailers and scan a QR code through the app to receive Pokemon to be transferred to your Pokemon Let's Go game. Kicking off the launch of the app is a promotion that will give you a free Shiny Pikachu and Shiny Eevee, if you travel to any Target stores within May 11th and June 23rd. Currently, this is only available for those in the United States.
Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let's Go, Eevee! players can add a uniquely colored Pokémon to their game by visiting a US Target store between May 11 and June 23, 2019. Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! players can get a Shiny Eevee, while those playing Pokémon: Let's Go, Eevee! can get a Shiny Pikachu.

To receive one of these Pokémon, you'll need to download the new Pokémon Pass app for select iOS and Android devices. Pokémon Pass is available to download from the Pokémon Trainer Club account owners when they're at designated retail locations. If you're an account owner and enter a participating Target store, Pokémon Pass will use geolocation to automatically notify you of nearby reward offerings. The app will then guide you through several prompts, including one to scan a special QR Code found in-store, so you can claim your Shiny Pikachu or Shiny Eevee.

Honestly, the only Pokemon game I’ve played is Pokèpark 2:Wonders beyond or something like that. Maybe I should try other games?
I suggest Pokemon Soul Silver if you are thinking about trying out a main series game

At least I don't have to see the sonic movie article on the top of the page anymore
A man who knows what's truly important
You don't know about "Nintendo hates"
I'm from Guatemala. Nintendo doesn't know we exist.
They can't get to any stores in the country for this kind of stuff. Guatemala's infrastructure is... well, it's got some room for improvement.
I know from experience. West Virginia's country roads ain't got nothin' on Guatemala. I've seen both.
And your power lines would give most engineers an aneurysm.

I hope this doesn't become the standard way of distributing events. Not only do I not have a mobile phone capable of running the app, but the only device I own that can possibly run the app is an iPad Mini 2 (non-cellular model) that is jailbroken.

I feel like this is going to exclude people that can't afford high-end phones and cellular connections from events in the future.
Go somewhere with free wifi?
Oh so then like jacklack said, people are just gonna spoof their GPS like they already do in Pokemon go.
My thoughts exactly.
Country exclusives is bullshit. Pure anti consumer bullshit, wondering how many millions Target paid Nintendo and they accepted it greedily
Also this. At least make it available at GameStops and EBGames and such in the rest of the world. Like they did with the Pokemon distributions on 3DS before.

Nintendo on Mexico oh man they hates us even more and got ignored by them
Nintendo in New Zealand. We're like Mexico to Nintendo Australia. Nintendo Australia promised the Gold Mario amiibo would come to Australia and New Zealand, but as a Target exclusive. So I emailed Target, the furniture store chain and asked if they were getting Gold Mario amiibo and got ignored.

I don't think it came to New Zealand even though they said it would.

Also, Nintendo Australia is really bad when it comes to localizing, we get European versions even though we are a lot closer to America for region locked online play and our culture is quite Americanized and we are not offended by things that Nintendo UK censors.
For example, I bought a US Wii U and tested Wii Sports Club, the US version is very playable online, the version on New Zealand eShop lags and disconnects.

Also, I don't know if Australians have the same problem, but they refused to service 3 people's 3DSes that I know of.

One time at EBGames, an employee went on a rant to me about how poorly Nintendo Australia communicates about shipments.

Then what happens if a place hosting an event like this doesn't have free WiFi? Also, the app seems to have Jailbreak detection built-in, as it just crashes whenever I try to launch it anyways. I'm not ready to give up this kind of functionality just to use a single app:

The same Shiny Pikachu and Eevee event was announced as a serial code event in South Korea just a couple of days before the app was announced for America.

Those stores are often in malls, so they will often have free wifi.

Not a problem on Android since root can be easily hidden :)

Yeah, you do have a point about the stores commonly being in malls. The only issue is that I don't think there is a tweak for iOS that can bypass or remove the jailbreak detection code from this specific app yet.
