'Saints Row' movie reportedly in the works

Latest in line of the video game to big screen adaptation trend is Saints Row. According to an exclusive Deadline report, F. Gary (Straight Outta Compton,The Fate of the Furious, Men In Black: International) has been attached to direct the movie, while the writing will be helmed by Greg Russo, who is also responsible for the Warner Bros Mortal Kombat reboot and the Resident Evil movie reboot scripts.

Little else has been revealed regarding this adaptation but more details should emerge in the coming months. But what do you think, will Saints Row make for a good movie adaptation?

I wish Saints Row II remastered HD edition for PS4 was rumored to be in the works!

I'd actually like a re-release of the first one. There is no need for it to be Xbox exclusive anymore.

This definitely needs to happen but we haven't even seen the movie so it might be good, or it might be worse than sonic. Only time will tell

saints row was pretty much a parody of a parody, i don't see how they could keep to the spirit of the game i.e giant floppy dildos and absurdly stupid ridiculous storyline.....it kinda works in game format, but as a movie......errrrrr.......i cant see it, unless they will just do a hardcore henry style absurd over the top action with layers of silliness....but still i liked the game for a little while, dont see it translating into a film in any way

No disappointment from me, I’m looking forward to whatever they do. Detective pikachu and sonic movies ain’t for me but I’m certainly interested to see a SR movie

Something with adult humor, like the Hangover series with a bit of juvenile jokes like Bad Boys and a sprinkle of slapstick... It could work.

Sonic and Detective Pikachu can work because of the layer abstraction with unrealistic/impossible characters, narrowing the audience. They can't pull that one here, so they have to produce something for mass appeal.

I'd personally go with a funny cop movie with a raunchy setting, filled with batshit characters and references to pop culture.

The game doesn't take itself seriously, so the movie shouldn't as well.

The director and screen writer, though...

Saints Row could totally work as a movie. The problem is that it requires writing that is faithful to the source and FAR better writing and directing than these two can do on their best days...

call me a heathen, but I like the Resident Evil movies, the only thing is that they have nothing to do with the games. I'd be fine with these guys, but I just want to see a saints row movie that's actually faithful to the story
