So my brand new ps4 pro just came in 6.00 FW. Do you think it's better to stay there, to update to 6.20 via usb and start tingling around in usermode or just update to head (6.51 time of posting)?
Just for the record, I have a 5.05 Slim that I intend to sell if this bet goes well. Also, I am aware of current scene status, just wanting to know your general opinion on this guys.

Always stay as low as possible.

There's next to nothing to do in 6.00 and I would prefer either play with userland or update my legit games so they work with 4k, also I have a 20€ gift card wich came with the system and I think I have a redeem code for vr worlds that came with the ps vr headset (require psn). I'll keep the 5.05 slim around also.

The general rule is to stay low for hax, however if you want to play online or do anything legitimate (play latest games) with that console you need to be on 6.51.

If it were me with a 6.00 pro, and I was asking this question, I would wait it out a little, see if anything develops, but bear in mind; nothing has been proposed for 6.xx public release.

Edit: for clarity I recently bought a pro on 6.20 and updated to 6.51 purely for new games (and PSVR) and psn, but I have a 5.05 OG, and a testkit too so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

In your case I lack the testkit, but general ditto. We still have the 6.20 WebKit published by specter not long ago to poke around. I thought having a public userland door in 6.20 made this version a target if something 6.XX ever sees the light of day. I am not so sure anymore at this point in time.

Nobody can predict the future, we may never see another exploit released or there may be an exploit for 6.51 released next week.

You need to decide whether you'll be happier just playing with it now with the potential that you'll never be able to hack it, or whether you'd rather leave it in a box which has a slightly better chance that you will be able to hack it but with no guarantees.

I waited and fortunately it only took a few months for 5.05 exploit, so I don't regret waiting.

These days the big hacks generally come out when a system is End Of Line anyway and even then all you get it warez so update it, enjoy it and do what you bought it to do - play games!

I think that's why I focus on just enjoying single player experiences that aren't too competitive

That must be rough. Productive I'm sure but hard to balance with daily life

@Maximumbeans, Indeed. I've been working on getting this Infecutus chip to work on my PS2. But after soldering, I realised that a plastic piece was missing from the power ribbon cable to the power and eject buttons.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Now I could go with soldering the contacts from the cable to the connector on the mobo, but doesn't sound like a good permanent solution.
  • Maximumbeans @ Maximumbeans:
Man, that's beyond my brain  I'm no good with hardware for now. I'd like to get into hardmods in future though
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Maximumbeans, Maybe start practice soldering. Get a cheap-ass soldering iron and follow some good YouTube tutorials.

Least my experience has gotten better than over a decade ago. My iron would constantly bump into components and break them.
  • Maximumbeans @ Maximumbeans:
Sounds good. I actually did soldering but like 16 years ago for school so uuuuh probably rusty haha
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Maximumbeans, Same here. I did soldering at school from a teacher who I honestly liked since he had plenty of good electronics experience.
