The latest Zelda:BotW patch 1.6.0 requires FW 8.0 to run. Some users use Tinfoil to bypassed the FW requirement, but the game needs FW 8.0 to overclock up to 1.75ghz with the latest patch. So what happens if you run it on lower firmware? No change in speed or will the game runs slower if it can't overclock?

It's not going to matter either way. The game will work fine as the oc is only during the loading from what i hear. Gameplay is the same speeds as before. Also if your doing vr with the motion enabled make the speed fast in the options so it matches the speed of your head better. And manually oc for better framerates is better from what I can tell. Also cut some air vents on the vr so the switch can get some air. Helps even if your not oc'd.

The speedup for loading is quite subtantial:

  • Loading save file: 31 seconds -> 21 seconds
  • Fast travel: 19 seconds -> 11 seconds
  • Entering shrine: 10 seconds -> 7 seconds

Yeah for sure. But gameplay isn't going to be any different..Unless u oc that ram to 1600. If ur interested in cutting holes/vents for the switch to breath i'd recommend making them A little higher than I did. But even then u can still see the switch vents from the holes so it still gets air. I didn't take into consideration the piece that sits inside the holder.

Is it true that many are on lower than 7.0.1? If so why? I can understand why people haven't upgraded to 8.x yet as there is no SX OS support yet, but why not 7.0.1?

Waiting for that perfect exploit to come along that only works for that FW and don't wanna mess with downgrading...Idk really. Also i'm not sure if this is A thing but I put the reflective stickers on the glasses to cheese the elephant. As it comes with the stickers but I didn't buy the elephant one. The ball mini-game is sweet. Just tried it out tonight and it works. Spread the word cause idk if other people might wanna know about that. U can cheese the camera game too if u wanted..And the bird one. All I bought was the blaster starter set lol.

Will these oc during loading screens become a standard for games? Can we expect updates for existing games? Thats one huge complaint I have with switch are the long loading times.

For example Dragonball FighterZ takes 45-50 seconds to load a fight from the VS loading screen. Compared to about 30-35 on Xbox/PS4 and 10-15 on pc. It's so exruciating on switch. If Bandai could throw out a overclock update and cut loading times by 10-15 seconds it would be so good.

It doesn't work for me it says error occurred.

I just installed it, it works. I'm using FW7.01 with SXOS 2.61. Loading does feel faster (not really)!

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Just curious, why don't more games do this? OC during loading? Are there long term heat issues? Stability concerns?

The 'Boost Mode' was only added recently by Nintendo. I believe all new games will use it in the future, old games will need a patch to take advantage. The recent Hellblade load pretty fast for a graphically intense game, and it's an Unreal engine game - known for slow loading. I wondered if they use the boost mode?

Ever since I installed v1.6.0, my BOTW started to screw up. I was on v7.0.1 back then. Whenever i press the '-' button during gameplay the game will crash and will kick me out to the home menu. Then I tried restoring my v6.x nand backup and updating the game again to v1.6 but now the game crashes right after the nintendo switch loadscreen. Later I'll try to update to v8.x and see if it'll fix the damn thing.

V1.6 of zelda requires system firmware to on 7 or higher. Of course with system firmware of 6.x you will crash if you load up v1.6 of zelda

What did you used to install the update?
I'm on SX OS V2.6.2 EMUNAND 7.0.1, installed the 1.6.0 v786432 BOTW update with SX Installer 1.52, and Goldleaf 0.5 (because they can remove the firmware version check), and even worked with regular SX Installer but it dosen't remove the firmware version check (just reinstall with the two other installers), and the game works fine on 7.0.1 so far.
PS. Maybe you got a bad update file mine's from TurboSnail, can't give you the link, find it yourself.

I am on 7.0.1 with Atmosphere 0.8.7. Installed 1.6 update with Goldleaf 0.5
The game loads fine but when i start to load my savegame it loads until the middle of the loading bar and then the switch crashes (black screen).

Mine is from Turbosnail too.

The MD5 for the update file is: 6f711761f036eeaf74f906947591d7dd

Anyone got a clue what could be the problem here?

Oh so that's why my game kept crashing when I tried to load it after the update.
Dumb me, I'm on 6.2.0, and as far as I know, it requires a minimum of 7.0.0, correct?
Is there any workaround for this?
I really don't want to update past 6.2.0 xD

Nope, v1.60 requires some files from 7.x.
There is no harm upgrading to 7.x other than creating that nand backup again. Oh and the homebrew application crashing on me if i exist the app other than the + nbutton :ha:

Just figured out yesterday what the problem was. One of my mods was the cause of the crash. I still don't know yet but I think it's the ProHud3000
