Hello everyone, I am at my wits end trying to mod my Wii U for the first time and hope you can help. Here is my story...

I have attempted using a 1 GB and 4 GB SD card as well as a 64 GB and a 256 GB micro SD card with an adapter. They have all been formatted using both the SD Card Formatter and then GUIFormat.

I am using the following guide: wiiu.hacks.guide

My SD card is structured as follows based on the guide:

root:/cbhc
root:/haxchi
root:/install
root:/wiiu

In the install folder I have a folder for hbc.

In the wiiu folder I have folders for apps and controller as well as the payload.elf file.

In the apps folder I have folders for appstore, cbhc, disc2app, haxchi, hidtovpad, homebrew_launcher, mocha, nanddumper, nnupatcher, savemii_mod, and wup_installer_gx2.

With all of that being said, every time I try to run the exploit from the browser I get the FSOpen failed error message. I have checked in vWii and all of the SD cards I am using are recognized and allow for files to be copied. I have also cleaned the SD card slot with compressed air and a q-tip with alcohol and am not sure what else to try.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Restart your console, open Mii Maker and try to save a photo of your Mii to the SD card. If that doesn't work, the problem lies with wither your SD card or SD card slot. I find that sometimes I have to remove and re-insert the SD card upwards of 3-4 times before my console recognises it.

If saving the picture works, then I have no idea what's going wrong.

Thanks for the suggestion. I was able to save the picture using the standard 4GB SD card. I immediately closed it and went to the web browser to attempt to launch the exploit and received the FSOpen Failed message again.

I did not mention before but this Wii U is on 5.5.3 U. I don't believe that should make a difference from what I have read, but thought I would throw it out there.

If you still haven't gotten it to work, make sure you've wiped your browser data completely before trying again. Also, try using the following website for the browser exploit instead:

u.wiidb.de

I appreciate your suggestion. I deleted all cookies, user name/password and reset save data and tried with both my original url as well as the one you provided and still get the same message.

Sounds like an SD card error. I would have suggested trying another SD card, but you said you already tried 4 different ones. What I would do is start over and see how it goes. Erase the content of the SD card and start from the beginning. Also, not saying this guide you followed isn't good, but you might try the resident guide which worked for numerous people here >> https://gbatemp.net/threads/guide-community-noob-guide-to-wii-u-hacking.451297/
As soon as you can, install haxchi and you'll be fine.

What is in your \wiiu\apps\homebrew_launcher folder?

I have the following files:

homebrew_launcher.rpx
icon.png
meta.xml

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

make sure your sd card is not locked sometime it will click lock when u slide sd card in Wii U and will not run anything off card

Thanks, I have tried both locked and unlocked to make sure that wasn't the issue. When I take it out it does not appear to be changing the position of the SD card lock.

That's your problem. Use version 1.4, not the rpx version.

@Maximumbeans, Indeed. I've been working on getting this Infecutus chip to work on my PS2. But after soldering, I realised that a plastic piece was missing from the power ribbon cable to the power and eject buttons.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Now I could go with soldering the contacts from the cable to the connector on the mobo, but doesn't sound like a good permanent solution.

Man, that's beyond my brain  I'm no good with hardware for now. I'd like to get into hardmods in future though

@Maximumbeans, Maybe start practice soldering. Get a cheap-ass soldering iron and follow some good YouTube tutorials.

Least my experience has gotten better than over a decade ago. My iron would constantly bump into components and break them.

Sounds good. I actually did soldering but like 16 years ago for school so uuuuh probably rusty haha
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Maximumbeans, Same here. I did soldering at school from a teacher who I honestly liked since he had plenty of good electronics experience.
