So, if I still have the SD card from my 3DS, how could I use, say, Godmode, to extract games - into a .cia or .3ds format to reinstall on a new 3DS. (Not worried about any save data, just games with custom icons) Thanks~

By the way... No, it's not a bricked system that could be recovered. It's completely broken.

the NAND included? If not you just might borrow another 3ds and the mainly broken ones temporarily and dump them. It wouldn't have to be elegant, just good enough to get your game the heck off of that 3ds. Hope my logic works

Yes, if you don't have a NAND dump (or at least essential.exefs created by Godmode, or moveable.sed), then that will be a problem.

Wouldn't it be easier to extract the custom icons, or even to re-download the custom icons from wherever you found them..? Unlike save data, I would not have thought those to be irreplaceable.

It will suck if you don't have a way to access your movable.sed. If you know someone who friended you before sharing one another's friend code, you'll need that person to hack their 3DS and dump their friendlist.

Save file(s) RECOVERY.. HELP! [post #3]

Also these.

I still have essential.exefs and it looks like a nand dumb. I know I did a nand dumb, but forget where that was stored...

I started skimming the tutorials you all posted, thanks. If I'm not worried about save files or getting banned online, are there any steps I won't have to worry about?

~where can I find "moveable.sed" ? I'm able to mount the nand backup. Is it located there? I see "mobeable.bin" ...

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

...ok, so basically, if I put the old SD card from my [broken 3DS] into a [different 3DS], is there a way to - I don't know - change the nand on the [different 3DS] to match the original one... so that it would read what's on the SD card (like the "Nintendo 3DS" folder)... or do I need to extract games from the SD card and then reinstall them on the [different 3DS]?

@richardZeldaModder,
  1. GodMode9 → [1:] SDCARD ( )/.../essential.exefsMount as EXEFS image.
  2. G:/movableCopy to 0:/gm9/out.
  3. On desktop computer or GodMode9, rename that file:
    • sdmc:/gm9/out/movablesdmc:/gm9/out/movable.sed
    • GodMode9: Hold (R)-shoulder and press (X) on movable. Use the D-Pad to type in ".sed".
As was warned from the previously mentioned thread,
Do not be lazy and get comfortable using the broken 3DS movable.sed in the replacement 3DS on a permanent basis with online connectivity unless you want to risk getting banned.

4. On your replacement or stand-in 3DS system, put that movable.sed somewhere on its SD card.
5. Back up that system's SysNAND *.bin image - Creating a NAND Backup
  • You absolutely need to do this because you're going to do something bad.
6. Press (Y) on 0:/.../movable.sed to [CLIPBOARD] select the file.
  • See the top-right corner of the bottom LCD.
  • If a mistake was made, press (SELECT) to reset.
7. Go into the directory [1:] SYSNAND CTRNAND/private/ and press (Y) → Copy path(s)<A> yes → button combo → Overwrite file(s)<A> yes.
  • This will replace the stand-in 3DS system's movable.sed with the one from the broken system.
  • This is the "doing something bad". You better not have skipped step 5.
8. Press (A) on 1:/private/movable.sedCalculate CMAC<A> yes<A> yes → button combo → <A> yes.
  • This will fix the CMAC on this file. Basically, you're performing homebrew System Transfer that is not officially sanctioned or server recorded by Nintendo, which is super bad.
  • Keep this 3DS system disconnected from the WiFi or online access. Do not play online or use Nintendo services like the eShop or Internet browser.
9. Press (START) and hold (START) to reboot Luma3DS chainloaderGodMode9.
  • Reset may be required for GodMode9 to formally recognize the Nintendo 3DS folder.
  • The [A:] SYSNAND SD drive should be visible and navigable.
10 (Conditional) - If the [A:] SYSNAND SD dirve is not shown due to mismatch between the movable.sed KeyY and <ID0> subfolder, please see:
  • CTRTransfer (Type D9) - Fix movable.sed KeyY
  • Or, you may need to refer back to finding the 1st half of the KeyY from someone's dumped friendsave.bin followed by brute forcing the 2nd half.
11. Back up all your games, DLCs, and updates into CIAs.
12. Boot to HOME Menu and immediately turn off the WiFi.
  • Press (L)-shoulder + (DOWN) d-pad + (SELECT) → Rosalina menuSystem configuration... → Toggle wireless
  • or, HOME Menu Design → Wireless Communication / NFC: OFF
13. Go to System Settings → Data Management → Nintendo 3DS → Software.
14. If the games are not seen in HOME Menu due to missing tickets, use faketik to restore them.
15. Back up the 3DS game saves + extdata with Checkpoint or JKSM.
After everything has been backed up,

16. Using the ######_XX########_sysnand_000.bin created from step 5,
17. Reinstall everything with a right and proper setup.

Thanks! This helps a lot.

Do you know if this will work if the original files are from a "New 2DS" - and if I move them to an Old-2DS?
