Ok I have searched tons of threads and tried pretty much everything but keep getting tons of problems after migrating from ReiNX to SX OS

I decided to make the switch to SX OS and start using a Windows 10 PC and a Fat 32 SD Card after many problems with ReiNX

So I am using:
latest SX OS
latest payload.bin
Brand new 400gb Class 10 SD Card (Sandisk)
Updated to 7.01 using Choidujour
I am in RCM mode and booting using the SX OS Android App
All folders on the SD card have Auto Archiving unticked apart from the folders in Nintendo/Resources

My problems are:
When injecting the payload 70% of the time I am met with the dreaded boot.dat red logo screen - I have to try 5/6 times for it to boot
When installing NSP or XCI via SX sometimes I get an install error straight away or after 25/50% - all of these NSP's worked fine in ReINX
After a failed install none of the album, installed games etc work and I get the Micro SD Card is not inserted error
Tinfoil/Goldleaf USB install - as soon as the USB cable is connected both apps freeze so I cant install anything above 4gb on the Fat 32 SD Card
Installing games to the system memory works all the time - just seems to be SD card corruption issues

I have tired multiple class 10 SD Cards and scoured all of the forums trying to get to the bottom of this :(

Is it possible there are some tickets or files on the switch memory itself that are causing corruption? I am not a total noob, for a year ReiNX was working perfect but since updating to 7.01 and SX OS everything has gone to pot

Someone take pity and suggest solutions, Cheers

I had the same problem(s), there is something wrong with your SD card. Just re-format your SD card. That should solve the problem.

Try to to use there SX installer for the nsp files. And format your sd card in fat32 cluster 32kb that should work if not maybe your sd card is faulty

Where did you buy your SD card? Sounds like it might be a fake. You can test it with h2testw: https://3ds.hacks.guide/h2testw-(windows)

and I had to figure out the hard way (last night, in fact, on my own) that you need to place keys.txt (rename the file you get after using RCM_Lockpick) in the same folder as sxserver.exe or you will get nothing but immediate freezes and/or crashes when installing via USB. Once I figured that out, everything was fine! 200GB SanDisk, fat32. Installed Hellblade. Started watching the intro, but that was about it.

Is it possible that any residual failed install files or similar have been written to the switch NAND that can cause problems? Is there anyway to wipe that all clean?

Seems strange that the same card that worked with ReiNX isn't working with SX. Maybe the SD card is dying?
If you got a smaller one (32 GB) try doing a few operations with that.

I have tried from scratch with 4 other cards, all new, 32gb, 64gb and 2 x 128gb - all of the above problems occur with them too :(

When you updated with Choidujour did you make sure to pick the "exFAT" option? After selecting the firmware package to load you'd be given two options: [7.0.1] or [7.0.1 (exFAT)]. You might run into problems reading from your SD card if you didn't select the second option. You can correct that by reinstalling 7.0.1 and selecting it.

I've not known residual data to cause the problems you're describing but you can delete partial installations from Data Management under Options. The software should show the appropriate name but no thumbnail and a minuscule install size. I know tickets can be deleted via Tinfoil's Ticket Management option but I've never had need to fiddle with that.

From what you've described it sounds like a classic case of card corruption yet you claim these cards have worked before with ReiNX and on other devices. Short of trying a good card from another manufacturer I don't know quite what else to say. When I first hacked my system last year I went through a number of consecutive fake SanDisk cards. It put me off of them for good. I got myself a 64gb Samsung card, formatted exFAT, and have been using that with SX OS for nearly a year since without issue.

If you've verified that your cards are real and are reading and writing as intended on other devices than it might be a freak problem with the microSD card slot on your Switch. Try switching back to ReiNX on one of your cards and see if that works as it once did.

Maybe your se card reader is faulty, I changed mine for the same reason.
But for me it was not a success, pins were broken on the connector of the card reader on the switch motherboard.
I have to solder the pins one by one to resolve this issue... pain in the ass.

hiya.. ok well I just did this two days ago with the 400GB card I received from Amazon.

A) First I had to update my sysNAND firmware to an exFAT type - otherwise the SD Card wasn't even recognised when I put it into the switch. I used ChoiDuJourNX - which is different to ChoiDuJour and ran that from the older SD Card I was using which was already configured for SX OS.

B) I then formatted the 400GB SD card IN THE SWITCH :
  1. Select System from the settings menu. It's at the bottom of the menu.
  2. Select Formatting Options. It's all the way at the bottom of the menu.
  3. Select Format microSD Card.
  4. Select Continue.
  5. this formats the card as exFAT
C) I then powered off the Switch and removed the SD card and connected it to my USB SD card reader and connected that to my Windows PC.

D) on my Windows PC I used a free version of EaseUS Partition Manager and changed the exFAT partition to FAT32 as neither the Windows 10 or ubuntu PC would format the SD Card as FAT32 for the Switch to be able to read it properly (yeah I know.. weird).

D) I went to the SX website and DOWNLOADED fresh new copies of the payload.bin and SX OS 2.6.2 zip file. Unpacked the zip and copied the boot.dat and payload.bin files to the SD card.

E) I use an RCM jig and generic USB dongle (not SX branded one) so I insert the jig and dongle, then press and hold the + button and tap the power button. This then loads the SX OS launcher.

F) SX OS detects no licence so it creates a file named ''licence-request.dat'' on the SD card. Turn off the switch, remove SD card, put it in PC and upload the ''licence-request.dat'' file to the licence page on the SX website. You'll then need to type in your licence number (given to you by the SX OS seller you bought from) and it will give you a file to download named ''licence.dat'' - copy that to the SD card and then put the SD card back in the Switch and use the jig / payload injector.

F) I selected the OPTIONS menu and created emuNAND as SD FILES on the card - that took about an hour, so I connected the power to the Switch while it did it's thing.

G) when that finished I powered down, then powered back on and launched the SX OS launcher again and selected the orange ENABLE EMUNAND on the left hand side of the menu.

H) I then clicked the CUSTOM FIRMWARE option and SX OS loaded. I like to change the background theme colour so I know whether I'm in original or emuNAND if I don't use the switch for a few days and it's been on sleep mode.

I) After I'd established SX OS emuNAND was working ok, I powered off - removed the SD Card and put it back in my PC and download the SX Installer v1.52 from the SX web site; tinfoil version 1.55 from the tinfoil.io web site and the homebrew menu (nx-hbmenu_v3.0.1.zip) from the github site. Unpack the ZIP files and then copied them all to the SD card.

J) Put SD card back in Switch and boot up into emuNAND. the Apps should all be accessible now after pressing the R trigger button over the album folder and pressing A as well.

K) At this point I powered down again, removed the SD card and copied the SX folder (which also has the emuNAND files) to my PC. Having the clean emuNAND files makes for easy and fast recovery / restoration if needed (or later on if you buy like a 1TB SD card in future).

Assuming you have Windows on your PC - then grab either, or both the SX Server version 1.1 program from the SX OS website, or/as well as the NUT EXE version 1.2 from the RELEASES tab on the github repository (google search for "blawar nut github" - I don't know if I'm allowed to link addresses here).

I honestly can't recall if you need to install the Zadig USB driver installer or not with using those - so just run the SXSERVER.EXE on your Windows PC and see if it has any errors.

When you first run the SXSERVER.EXE or NUT.EXE files the popup window is fairly small - make it larger and you'll then see in the top left hand of the window it'll list whichever folder you ran the SXSERVER.EXE from (don't do it from the desktop.. stick it on the same drive / folder where you have your NSP files). Click in the text and type in the full drive and folder path to where you have your NSP files. eg: F:\NSP and then click the SCAN button to the immediate right of it. This will scan the folder for all NSPs so that SXSERVER.EXE (or NUT.EXE) know which files it has access to.

Start either the SX INSTALLER or TINFOIL app on the Switch and then connect a USB C Cable between the PC and Switch.

After a sec all of the files which SXSERVER has access to should be visible on your Switch and you can press A to install them - the screen will change and ask if you want to install to SD CARD (recommended) or NAND, as well as if you want to install all DLC and UPDATES you also have downloaded as NSP files. Click A to install and you can click B to go back to the file selector and choose more NSPs to install.. they'll be added to the queue.

long winded, but hopefully it helps.

I had the same problem as this poster. Indeed the connector on the main board (not the SD module itself) was broken. The constant taking in and out of my microsd caused the break. Nintendo didnt secure it very well. Just a very tiny screw and that's it.
