I hope you rename the game as Ni no Kuni: Dominion of the Dark Djinn as it's the official title of the DS version as it's written on the soundtrack album.
Also, it fits more nicely with Wrath of the White Witch and has a better ring to it than The Jet-Black Mage.

Cannot get this running on TWiLight Menu++ running on my OG 3DS, it works fine in desmume. Has anybody got this to work on 3DS? Will it run on a R4i Gold 3DS Plus as an alternative? Really want to play this on handheld but I will settle for emulator if not

I'm not part of the team, but I think it was decided, after a lot of talks, to do a "translation" and not a localization.
All names (game's title and NPC/Players names) match the one used in the Japanese game (Shizuku instead of Drippy, etc.), not the names from the PS3 localized and modified version.
the "dominion" title was known, but not retained.

i got it working on Twilightmenu++ v8.0.0 and nds_bootstrap v0.17.1 on luma 9.1 and 11.9u fw.
i took the clean Japanese ROM,
i then applied the alternative 'arm7' .xdelta patch with 'xdelta 1.1 GUI'
then i used 'DS-Scene ROM Tool v1215' to apply the AP-patch.
Works like a charm

I did this and it just won't load, stuck on a white screen, works fine in emulator

make sure you use the alternate arm7 patch under 'Custom User's Patches' and apply it to a clean japanese rom, then you're good to go,
Maybe the SD card isnt good enough as stated in the OP, or it needs to be formatted to FAT32 64kb cluster if its at least 128gb and above.
32kb for 64gb and below.

Just as a quick heads-up: for those wanting to play on a 3DS without a flashcart using TWiLight Menu++, make sure you use the modified arm7 mod instead of the normal patch: https://gbatemp.net/posts/8420981/

well i ap patched it anyways, because, reasons.
anyways, it still works for me,
and you basically just said what i said a couple posts above... lol
i already said use the alternate arm7 patch for twilightmenu++ on 3ds.

Since "gamef*qs" has not provided a guide for Imagen, I created mine for you all to use. And I also found a solution for those who wanted Imagens that can only be obtained through wi-fi (but cannot). I found and added Action Replay Codes that enable all Imagen Ticket Exchange with Pokoro at Shrine of Spirits.

Just wondering, is there a version of this patch that doesn't have the 'We do not condone piracy' screen at the start? Even the original Japanese anti piracy warning would be better than the MS Paint pencil tool drawing...

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better. -
