Can somebody explain difference between hbloader and hbmenu?
HBLoader gives instructions to the console to load from the root a pre-designated homebrew, in most cases HBMenu, to be read from the Album or whatever you set the Title ID to. HBMenu is the actual homebrew menu and comes as a .NRO itself but you can only load other .NRO files from HBMenu so HBLoader is used to replace something on your console with HBMenu so you can load HBMenu and subsequently other .NRO files.

Question: I am trying to get retroarch to run n64 at full speed on switch. I have the latest build of Retroarch (not the nsp), I have created a forwarder with nro2nsp, I am using the Mupen64plus_next core, I have retroarch overclocked, and I am getting frame rate pausing randomly throughout the playthrough. Not sure if I did something wrong or if I need to adjust more settings. I am using Atmosphere (Kosmos one). I also tried holding "R" while opening the album or a game and same result. I did search the threads and so many results came up it was hard to find my specific issue, same with Google and Reddit. I am sure there is a thread on here explaining it, I just couldn't find it. Thanks in advance of any help/guidance or pointing me in the right direction.

Hello, I want to get another SD card to use, but I want to use that and my current one. I'm using SX OS, if I copy/paste all the content (no roms) can I use my new sd card with the same license? And what about emunand? I have to copy/paste it (if possible) or I have to make it again in my new SD ?

You can copy everything apart from emunand as far as I know

Hey, I recently purchased the sx pro kit. I read I don't know how many different threads talking about fat32 and exfat support. I finally decided on using exfat since some people talked like it worked fine for them and they didn't have the size restriction. I followed the tx guide and put the boot.dat and sxdumper.nro files on the microsd card. I created the emunand backup. I then did the license activation part and inserted the card back into the switch. I was getting the "a system update is required to use the microSDXC memory card" message. I have read different things to do, but wasn't sure exactly which threads were correct. Since I don't care about online, I just went ahead and connected and did the update. Now, when I boot into the sx os menu, I click boot custom firmware and the screen just goes black. It says emunand enabled in orange. I have been reading and trying everything but I just don't know where I went wrong. Any help is appreciated.

Thank's

Hello guys, I am going to install Atmosphere 0.8.7 to my unhacked Switch (good serial number).

I have only one question: as I want to install Briccmii, should I use Briccmii.bin in place of fusee_primary.bin, or should I use them together?
Thank you!

I know it's late, but FAT32 is the way to go. You can put your larger files on a USB thumb drive that is exfat, and plug it into the dock, works fine for me.

Hi Guys. Little lost here.
I have my switch in 6.X and would like to go to 7.X
I already have SX PRO installed in 2.5 so what do i need to do ?
Should i remove the sd card, go online to update switch, then installed boot.dat of beta 2.6.1 on SD and redo the hacking process ??

Thanks for your feedback!

Exfat is prone to corruption and only recommended for nand backup.

To update the switch to use the memory card format to fat32 and run the homebrew application "choidujourNX"

I bought a switch this morning which is already up and running with SX os, a 400gb micro sd and seems to be running fine with all games I've tested so far.

I really wanted to use the freebird app to allow overclocking for games but from what I've read so far (novice to the switch) this isn't possible for me on SX os.

So my question is, how easy or difficult is it to start again on this switch and have a different cfw that allows me to use this. Or is there any guide to follow to allow me to do this?

So what about emunand? I have to create it again?
Depends which one you made. If its in the internal storage, its not in the SD card so it doesn't have to be remade. If you made it as a file, you can simply copy and paste it. If it was installed as a hidden partition, you will have to copy the image of your SD card with something like Win32diskimager and write the dump to the new card.

If you want to install Briccmii, you use it in place of fusee_primary.bin. Also you don't install Atmosphere :D

You can do that or you can use the homebrew application ChoiDujourNX to update your firmware without going online. Bear in mind you will have to track down the system update firmware files yourself but they are a Google search away.

All CFW use the same exploit which is Fusee Gelee meaning they are all loaded the same way and all CFW are just a bunch of files you put on your SD card. So they are equally easy or difficult to install, the only difference comes in the files you put on your SD card. If you want to use a different CFW, all you do is simply place their corresponding files on the SD card and send the payload that boots that CFW instead. You can also have multiple CFW files on one SD card.

Hello. If I overclock the switch using Retroarch's settings, does that setting take effect outside of Retroarch as well, or only for Retroarch?

I'm on atmosphere/kosmos cfw when I download and install an nsp file with goldleaf it works great at the moment.
Will this always be the case? for example if a new game came out next year would I be able to just install it or do I have to continually update files on my sd card to make sure I can install the latest games?
TIA

Hey appreciate both the replies. Really am sorry for the dumb questions but I have read so much, I guess I got confused when first setting the sx pro up. I do have a couple more questions before redoing it though. Do I just wipe the sd card and reformat as fat32. Then, redo the emunand backup and all? and not completely sure what choidujournx does. Do I have to run it so the switch recognizes the new fat32? I'll try to find a guide for running it.

Thank's again

The general answer is no and I'll break up each part so its easier for you to understand.
  1. First and foremost, you need something to install backups which is Goldleaf in this case. While Goldleaf works fine for now on the latest firmware, there was a time when it didn't and this can happen anytime there is a new firmware update. Since firmware updates can break homebrew, and other things which I'll get to later, its generally advised to not update to the latest firmware. If for some reason a new firmware update breaks Goldleaf again but there is an updated Goldleaf that works on the new firmware, all you do is replace the .nro file with the newer build
  2. Unfortunately, a title installer is not enough to install backups. You also need patches that enable piracy colloquially known as "signature patches". Now while I despise this term as there are multiple patches for different purposes, most of the time all of the patches are bundled together. For your own knowledge, there are 3 types of patches: ES (Eticket Services) are for raw and untouched .NSP files, FS (specifically fs_nosigchk) are for homebrew .NSP files and .XCI converts, and ACID patches which are for .XCI files installed with ZeroTwoXCI or blawar's version of tinfoil. All CFW have these patches (although they are applied differently depending upon the CFW) except for Kosmos which does not bundle the ACID patches. Stock Atmosphere does not bundle any piracy patches either but you can obtain those from the sweet patches thread which also contains ACID patches meaning if you want ACID patches with Atmosphere, you have to combine the sweet patches with Stock Atmosphere not with Kosmos. These patches are also firmware-specific so if there is a new firmware update, you need an updated set of patches. Now while ReiNX uses smart patching, sometimes that can get broken as well. The important takeaway here is that the piracy patches need to be updated for every new firmware
  3. Firmware is the last thing which can directly affect backup installing/loading. Certain games require certain firmware versions to run and cannot be spoofed to run on lower firmwares due to technical limitations. Assuming you are doing everything else right, a game may not install because your firmware is too low which can be solved by simply updating your firmware. And before you update, always check to make sure the firmware you wish to update to is supported by CFW. Generally, as long as its not the latest firmware update, CFW supports that firmware. Speaking of CFW...
  4. None of this cannot be made possible without running CFW and CFW has to be regularly updated for several reasons. The most important of which is ensuring the build of CFW you are using supports the firmware you are currently running. If you are ever in a position where you need to update your firmware, always update the CFW first before updating the firmware.
While this is quite the wall of text, at some points you will have to update your files to install newer games. The timing is both left up to you and the developers of everything I have listed above which includes the title installers, piracy patches, and CFW not to mention Nintendo dropping new system firmware versions whenever they please. Another good rule of thumb is that things released around the time a new firmware update drops never require that particular firmware update. It takes a few months for content to require a new system firmware update which is good for us because it means we do not have to update as soon as possible to play the latest releases.

While exFAT works fine for some people, overall its inferior to FAT32 because you didn't read about any of the people who had corruption or black screens when using it. The file size restriction can easily be bypassed by either splitting your files or installing them via USB/network which makes FAT32 better than exFAT. There is absolutely no reason to use exFAT on the Switch, at least until Nintendo or someone else makes it so exFAT can't corrupt the SD card anymore. Just use FAT32 and remake your EmuNAND. You haven't really done much so there is nothing useful in your old one that you would need to preserve.

I can't find Goldtree v.5 anywhere as I can't use Goldtree v.4 to install NSPs using Goldleaf .5 (which I do have on CFW). Everybody else should be running into this problem so can somebody please provide a link to GoldTREE v.5?
