Here's my updated 1.0 Switch repackage of Sega Chief's New Threat 1.4, including some "Plus" bells and whistles:
  • CHAOS high-quality character models
  • Avalanche Arisen battle scene textures at 0.5k (double quality over vanilla)
  • Seclet character voices in battle (optional)
  • JordieBo hi-res prelude credit screen
  • custom continue screen
This is only for the English release.
A readme is included with more details.

Download (400 Meg)

I've played up through Golden Saucer so far with everything seeming to work. That includes getting the right amount of source points per rank (+5 all stats, then another +10 or +5 for others) This is why I'm using 1.4 because 1.5 seems broken on the Switch in a few places, particularly on source points.

I also reverted CHAOS Shinra guards and soldiers to chibi models to help performance, especially mini-games sections like Junon parade.
Had the chance to check if the music in world map reset every time you enter to a battle?

Rakeesh, this is amazing. 1.5 just got fixed on Switch. Any chance you can update your pack?

https://mega.nz/#!H081mQxC!cKlBa_Vwy_eTjc7y5R2IhqHAU-eY5Y73pbeMiO63iPk

This pack already has a ton of stuff in it. The only major thing mine adds would be Avalanche Arisen battle textures, I suppose I could just release an updated battle.lgp with them added in soon.

This release does seem to fix the source point issue in 1.5 by making the scripts give 5x the items like in 1.4. Meaning they didn't fix the amount of points per item at the exe level, and judging from the file size it looks like this exe is still based on the steam version. While the source points should be fine I'd still be concerned about other problems people have encountered, including Vincent vanishing and save corruption, unless there is testimony from people that have thoroughly played this version through.

(Also curious they stuck in menu graphics for all languages, but NT itself only works in English.)

If at all possible could you list the changes/fixes between NT 1.4 and 1.5?

I'm the one who arranged this pack. I did include updated menu graphics for all languages since I had the opportunity to do so. I have only heard about save corruption from those who attempted to merge their vanilla save with NT, but I am curious to hear about this vanishing Vincent bug, where have you heard that? As far as exe edits, we are trying to avoid that as much as we can, until we cant.

I don't want to cast aspersions, I just don't want to be responsible for something I'm not using, as that behavior has left players screwed in the past. We don't have a full list of the .exe edits 1.5 makes and we know at least one of them doesn't work, so there could well be more, and ya'll will have to play on to find out.

In the meantime I made a batch file to aid in converting battle textures and detailed how to use it here. The only thing to know beyond that is I used the program flexxi to cap the size of Avalanche Arisen pngs to 512 pixels before converting them, so you could do something like that if you wanted it in your pack.

Unfortunately there is no detailed change log showing the differences between 1.4 and 1.5. I know 1.5 adjusts the stat effects of materia versus them being vanilla in 1.4, and 1.5 and adds one or two extra stat paths per character over 1.4. (Starting stats are also different in 1.4 vs 1.5) 1.5 also supports the "arrange" AKA hard mode, although the creator claims its pretty unbalanced. The big feature would be any extra bosses added to 1.5 and I know nothing about that.

I will stick with my max stats save and 1.5 then thanks for the info though.

Rahkeesh, if I use just your Battle.lgp file, that should update the Battle Textures? I already have New Threat, Chaos, and Anxious Heart on my Switch. Thanks!

Substituting a 1.4 battle.lgp *might* work but it's not safe. New Threat makes some essential changes to battle.lgp, if 1.5 adds some resource that isn't there in 1.4 and calls it, the game will freeze.

So I added AA textures to this battle.lgp, based on this version of Rawrzilla's pack that Angelus linked. Use rawrzilla's pack and just overwrite the old battle.lgp in 0100A5B00BDC6000\romfs\ff7\workingdir\data\battle with the new one.

If you want to move the AA textures around, just extract this battle.lgp and grab the files from "ohac" to "rraj"

P.S. I noticed the skybox seams are more noticable in some scenes, but that's how even the 2K version of AA works on PC.

Been using this pack and i had 2 freeze ups which can only be resolved by a hard reset. Seems to be after around 2 hours of play time, the music makes a whirring noise and everything else in game is frozen. First time was outside dons mansion second time was the route from sec 5 slums to sec 6 slums. Luckily i save often, I'll keep playing and let you know.

So the freeze-ups only happened once on each section and not repeated? Are they happening when the screen goes black and tries to transition to another screen?

I got one random crash walking into the ghost section of saucer after recruiting cait sith and haven't been able to replicate. It might be that I'm just pushing the memory too hard and need to scale back somewhere. Or tell people to reset their game every so often. :P

One of them was before entering a battle the other was leaving mansion screen to the slums area, so yeah I'd say its the transition. Be helpful of the overclock worked for this game. I'm still playing anyway, I'll just try and take note of the freezes.

Thank you VERY much for this package! I have a question. I have an Italian patch, can i simply replace the file inside your modpack in it with this translation ? Or i’m Going to broke your modpack?

NT makes changes to the dialogue and introduces new enemy and item descriptions, so it shouldn't be compatible with other languages at all. Any translation is probably going to be working with the same files and therefore conflict. Even the English re-translation Beacause/Reunion has never been compatible with NT.

The best you might be able to do is get the game to display English when the system is in Italian or such. I can look into it if that is of interest.

I meant that your system language is set to Italian and you try to play FF7.

If your system language is set to German, French, or Spanish in system settings, FF7 will display in those languages using their official translation, and the bulk of the NT mod won't even run because it resides in files specific to the English version. Sega Chief's readme in the Documentation folder of my NT pack tells you how to rename files so NT will still work, however most of the game should then display in English. It's just a convenience option for people that like their system set to a non-English language.

I only just checked that there is no official Italian support, so I guess you basically play FF7 in English mode, perhaps with an unofficial Italian translation mod on top. Basically there's no easy way to mix Italian or any other non-English language with NT without game-breaking issues arising.

Ok so can't get through the nibelheim sephiroth sequence. (And i select full story) without a complete crash. I saved right before, reset the switch and tried and still no avail. Im playing in handheld mode not docked, I'm unsure if this will have any affect on the memory. Any suggestions of what i can try?
