After a long day, feeling the need to unwind, what games do you find yourself returning to again and again?

I personally return often to Civilization 5 on PC, and Splatoon 2 on my Switch when I just need a breather. Both of these are games I could play for a long time, and feel relaxed while playing. I also have this mobile game called "Cubistry" on my phone. It's very basic, you have a 3D cube comprised of many smaller cubes with various patterns, and you just rotate the cube and match similarly-patterned cubes with each other to make them disappear. The fun for me is seeing how fast I can clear the cube. It's very simple, but I find it great for just relaxing my mind, and it only takes a few minutes so I can use it as kind of a quick mental break from work.

What are your comfort games?

Mostly any of the 3D Zeldas, especially OoT and MM.
Final Fantasy 7 and 10.
Super Paper Mario (replayed this recently), I love Paper Mario 1 and 2 but Super Paper Mario for me is much easier to just pick up and play.
And occasionally Banjo Kazooie.
Those are games I always love returning to, I never get bored of them. OoT I must have played through like 10 times by now.
Pretty much any of my other favorite games from my childhood are a safe bet as well, but those are the ones I keep coming back to on a regular basis.

Fate Grand Order on my phone
Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons on my 3DS
Rhythm games in general, are great.
Super Mario Bros. 3 (beat this game over 100 times at this point)

When I'm trying to just unwind after a long day I tend to play games that are short or games I can make a lot of progress in a short amount of time.

On PC, usually any of the Dark Souls games, Factorio, Stardew Valley, Duskers, Dwarf Fortress, Worms World Party/Worms Armageddon, PC Building Simulator, probably others I'm not thinking of at the moment. Mostly just chill games that are really simple and easy to go through.

On mobile, I played through all the Wordscapes games and it's various "spin offs", plus the Word Cookies games. Used to play Hex FRVR a lot, but that kind of got boring after a bit. I still play Bubble Blast 2, which came out fucking foreeeeeverrr ago in terms of mobile games, been playing it since 2010, beat all the levels like 5 times now and I still go back to it usually a few times a week

My comfiest games have got to be Empire Earth (PC), Dark Souls (PC) and Stardew Valley (PC). I know those games so well at this point that's really relaxing to jump back into them.

Often in such cases im playing Stellaris or Cities Skylines. Just nice and calm gameplay and i can take my sweet time for everything. Used to play it both on PC, already have Cities for Xbone now and stellaris will soon join in that.

Oh hell yeah, the Burnouts are fantastic chillout games! Revenge especially. Can't believe I forgot those.

Burnout Revenge (and Takedown) have so many happy memories for me. Paradise is great, but nothing quite compares to memorising every nuance of every track. In Paradise I only ever bothered memorising landmarks and main routes.

But above all else..... Crash Mode!!!!
Crash mode took over from snips for us to decide who’d make the next coffee, or joint when we were bombed :D

It was probably fairer too, we had one friend who’d always bottle it with snips. Jeez, what’s a little blood? Though I was a master at stripping skin, and my extremely high tolerance for pain ensured I never lost :D

Would listening to DKC 1/2’s music compositions for comfort and relaxation count as part of this thread? The soundtrack to me is so soothing and nostalgic ^^
