Borderlands 3 launches this September, PC version to be exclusive to Epic for 6 months

Following quickly on the heels of the Borderlands 3 reveal trailer which took place less than a week ago, Gearbox has decided to give fans the release date of their upcoming game. On September 13th, Borderlands 3 will launch on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC, with the latter having an initial release that is exclusive to the Epic Games Store. Steam players will still get a chance to play the game, though it'll be six months after the game launches, in April 2020.

Outside of the platforms and exclusivity agreements, a new trailer explains that co-op will be a focus, as it was in previous entries, with 3 adding a new feature which will allow enemies to scale up and down to each player's specific level. There will also be four versions of the game, the standard, deluxe, super deluxe, and the Diamond Loot Chest Collector's Edition. The Deluxe Edition will come with extra cosmetic skins, the Super Deluxe Edition includes the Borderlands 3 Season Pass, and the Collector's Edition features physical extras, such as a loot chest replica, character figurines, a map, and more.

Epic bad. Steam good. Epic greedy. Steam generous. Fornite suck. Team Fortress good. Chinese bad. Gaben good. Epic exclusive. Steam sad.

And that is pretty much what I had heard about this whole Epic vs Steam stuff on Internet. Not like I care anyway, console rule!

For reference, there seems to be cases with Epic Store where their 'monthly' security failures result in credit card info getting out... with one case coming up on twitch (which I cannot prove, but seems other collaborate similar stories like the "$500" one on page one) of $1000 being stolen...

It would fine if they were trying to compete with Steam in an organic manner, on a feature-by-feature basis. Instead they've decided that customers don't matter and they only care about pursuing exclusivity deals with greedy publishers. Well, sorry Tim Sweeney, but people aren't going to keep using a glorified web browser to buy games if piracy comes with more convenience.

For reference, here's everything that's missing from the Epic Games launcher:

Some of these aren't the most necessary features, but EGL somehow didn't even manage to include offline support and library sorting. Both of which are absolutely essential for any halfway decent launcher.
Is this chart up to date?
I know for sure that they've implemented offline usage of the launcher and games.
Edit: I also know they have 2FA, I use 2FA with my account/launcher.

6 months is nothing to people, compared to the heck-ton of backlogs each and everyone has one might not even touch the game till next year or so.

Yeah, but it not like you have to pay extra or anything to play it 6 months earlier so I don't see why people would need to hold off except unreasonable hate for Epic.

they only care about pursuing exclusivity deals with greedy publishers.

I ONLY want to focus in on the bolded section.

Seriously?!?

Giving devs more money that they deserve is a bad thing and Steam more competition is bad?

If that's truly how PC gamers think, I'm glad I'm not a PC gamer on Steam, that's truly an ignorant way of thinking.

I'm defending Epic, they can burn for all I care.

But I'm not going to take sides against the devs getting a bigger share of the profits and Steam having some healthy competition.

One reason that I see is the platform of preference, if not that then it's the unreasonable hate that you've mentioned.

You realize that publishers are not the same as developers, right? The developers are the ones who get screwed the most in this situation. Especially if the publishers decide to do something like take money from Epic for an exclusivity deal, then make bonuses for the developer contingent on an early sales quota. Hopefully some of these developers get new publishers or decide to self-publish after exclusivity nonsense ends up tanking their sales.

I never get Triple As at release price anyway... changes nothing for me and a ton of people who buy games like me.
I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that publishers will try to charge full price for their games on Steam after the exclusivity period ends. Just to really drive home the point that they hate having to give customers a choice.

I don't think the timed exclusivity is too big of an issue. I feel like the Epic Games client needs a lot of work (especially on the data/privacy side of things) but it'll still very much be playable like the other games available on their service. Sure, it very much is not ideal having all our games spread across several different game clients, but it's already like that now with Steam/Bnet/Origin/Uplay/Epic/Bethesda/GOG Galaxy.

Then again, I'm well over the Borderlands franchise, so I don't think I'll be picking it up anyway.

So i'm gonna be that guy, and actually talk about the game itself, okay? okay.

Honestly, I dig the new characters. another Siren is always a plus, but i might go for Moze, The Bot Jock.
Gotta love mechs, and i've been using the Soldier class in previous games anyway.
Compared to The Pre-Sequel, i've already noticed a MASSIVE improvement in quality and visuals. it's like next-gen cel-shading :3
I actually really dig the Calypso Twins as well! It's very refreshing after the entire Handsome threat, and they really fit in the wastelands.
GUNS, BILLION GUNS, GUNS WITH LEGS, LONG RANGE, CLOSE RANGE, ALL THE GUNS, YESSSS SO DELICIOUS TO LOOK AT!
It's also good to see Clap-Trap again. that little bugger is so amusing....(and a bit annoying) :)

People talk about Steam having a monopoly? Please explain how.

There have always been alternative places to buy the games from and then add them to steam using a key

The ONLY exclusives that Steam has ever had are Valve produced games. Hell, you can even add your Ubisoft games to steam (looking at you RB6 Siege)

This store exclusivity bullshit is dividing the market, the only reason Epic are able to undercut steam in terms of publisher % is because they are propped up by their Fortnite Cash Cow.

Please stop trying to tell us that Steam have had a monopoly on the market, that is not and never has been the case.

As someone rightly pointed out above, DIRECT comparisons between the 2 launchers have to be made with them both in their current states. Epic knew exactly what they were doing and did so without a second though. They assumed PC Gamers would just fall in line and buy from them if they bought exclusivity rights to the games.
