Cool happy to hear that this project is still alive! I noticed on the last release that skipping was a bit wonky (Sometimes it would keep the GUI on the screen sometimes it would hide it so you had to bring it up again, and also it would take some time before it loaded after skipping)

Will this work better in the new update?
Also as someone mentioned it would be awesome to be able to skipp with the shoulder buttons. (Especially for us anime fans, those anime intros can get quite annoying after a while hehe)
Yes skipping is a lot more stable now, and playback speed (2x, 4x...) have been added to R shoulder (backward is not possible).

I have recently used pplay onboard an aircraft and realized how much it drains the battery. A full charge lasts maybe 45 minutes. I had to watch my 2hr movie plugged in, and the charge rate cannot catch up with the drain, so I still ended up with a drained battery after finishing the movie. Is there a reason pplay drains battery so much? Is it because decoding is done on the cpu? I remember hardware decoding is very easy on the battery. I used to watch hours and hours of video on the psp.
It's software decoding yes, but most media won't need OC now (but I didn't get a battery drain as bad as you until now).

I enabled it, although I don't think OC would only be active for 1080p+. I think I was watching a 720p.
When you enable it it's always enabled. But like is said, you should not need it in most cases with the next release :) (Until you play heavy 1080p > 30Mb/s or hevc).

Thank you for the app and for replying! TBH it a was a few weeks ago and I don't remember the exact details. I think I was watching a 720p h264 movie. I think the battery ran out before I could finish the first hour (half of the movie) but I could be wrong, or the battery could be not at 100% when I started. It surprised me a bit because I assumed hardware decoding and 4+ hrs of battery life. But being able to watch video is already a perk so no complaint.

uh oh. that's why. I somehow recall reading even when the option is enabled it really kicks in only at 1080p. Obviously I misread/misunderstood. Will switch it off right away.

in fact maybe you can include an option to underclock the cpu for battery life?

one more thing, the app wasn't very stable, especially if paused, sleep, wake up and resume. A couple of times it sent my unit into the black screen of death (hold power button to restart). The same used to happen when the app was scanning new video files. But I take the new version will improve stability so I'll just look forward to it.

I couldn't use subtitles with pplay, I just put same name on video and srt subtitle and put them In same folder but when I'm running the video, it says no subtitles found. So I wonder what am I doing wrong?

Hey guys, version 2.0 uploaded :D I'm sure you'll enjoy this one! There's probably some new bugs as a lot of things has changed (internally), but you'll report!

PLEASE, BE SURE TO DELETE THE "cache" FOLDER IF YOU ARE UPDATING, ELSE YOU'LL HAVE A BLACK SCREEN

  • use mpv interface as ffmpeg wrapper (provide a fast, stable and powerful experience)
  • add external font support
  • disable automatic media info extraction thread, media info is extracted when a media is loaded
  • lot of fixes and improvements
  • updated readme, please read :)

My gosh. Keep up the good work! VLC Media Player being considered for Nintendo Switch but haven't heard from them ever since. This is one at last! Yay!

Works great to play media over network, except it doesn't load external subs when streaming. Other than that it works flawlessly, tkx :)

Thanks. I'll take a look soon for external subs when streaming. If you have the time you can report an issue on github so I don't forget! By the way, can you test this media+sub from sdcard? (Sub's needs to have the same filename as the media minus the extension of course).

Thank you! I don't know why but I can never get my network play to work. I have an ftp server on my NAS. v1.5 never played anything with an error "unexpected content" or something. v2 gives me infinite loading. I've waited 10 minutes for a 400mb mp4 file and it's still loading. Not that I need it badly but I'd like to report the issue.

i´m gonna test it now

EDIT: App and external subtitles (sd everything) working fine with fastforward included, tested with an ".avi" film. Cache and cfg files deleted previously as indicated.
On fw 7.01, atmosphere 0.85, from hbmenu.nsp.
Thank you man, this is the key app for me as i travel a lot.

Is it possible to make this work with Media servers?
Would be awesome if it can just scan local network and find them.
