Xbox Live on Switch, gonna bring a whole lot of XB1 games to it over time I'd bet. Microsoft is essentially bowing out of the console race and starting to focus on publishing. Taking the Sega route.
Actually not quite true. Microsoft said consoles as we know it are done and over and consoles itself are becoming more and more like desktops themselves. Their goal was always to bring games to the pc and xbox and that was something they never could do untill now. This was always their intention since the OG xbox. They want to expand om xbox as a brand and provide pc entertainment boxes for the tv. It is not exactly the same route as sega did. They're investing in a future where consoles as we use them now will be obsolete and no more

I think consoles will always have a place as long as there are companies like Nintendo putting out great exclusives. Plus gaming PCs will always cost more than gaming consoles, and not everyone can afford that.

Even the president of Nintendo said consoles are not the future anymore and they're putting out more and more of their exclusives to other stuff, movie franchising, tablets, phones, nvidia shield and that will be more and more futurewise. Also pc gaming doesn't cost more then console gaming. You can build yourself a decent 500-600 pc that can achieve sometimes even more than a console can with extra things added to it. Enthousiast pc gaming like myself that does cost a lot of money but mid range graphics or even high or ultra at 1080p/1440p costs around that money

When did the president say that? Got a source?

Sure you can build a decent PC for $500-600 capable of running games. But try building one for half that, which is what the Xbox One S and PS4 cost (roughly) and it will be very hard to match the performance and graphics quality unless you find a good deal used, and it isn't really fair to compare a used PC against a new console, of course used is gonna give you better bang for your buck.

Also the Xbox One X is able to do 4K for $500. Try doing that with a PC. :P

It was a headline on gbatemp itself. But that pc has a longer lifetime than that console does plus it has extra features, the biggest feature is gaming above 30fps

I think you are paraphrasing a bit there, I think I know the post you're talking about and IIRC they never actually said consoles were not the future. Just some stuff about expanding to other platforms.

Also the games they've released on mobile so far are watered down, essentially just designed to get their foot in the doors of people who don't own any recent Nintendo consoles, so that they'll buy a Switch for the full experience. So I don't think those should be taken as a sign that Nintendo is slowly moving away from the console business either, they seem to be just using them as a way to promote their console business.

As expected, the title is misleading and claims the president said something he did not. Everything he said was pretty vague so I'm not sure how that could be taken as a "we're gonna move away from the console market". I hate when news outlets paraphrase like that just to get more clicks.

yeah i know but if we see that already happening now and console exclusives coming more and more to pc and other platforms. The future def ain't consoles anymore hence why everybody is starting to invest in other stuff like Microsoft is doing, Nintendo is doing because the next generation that is 2 come is the probably the last console generation as we know it

Anyway yeah, you might be right. But I think it's still too early to tell. There are still advantages to consoles, if you want to get a decent gaming PC for $500-600 you pretty much have to build it yourself because the markup from OEMs matters a lot more on such a cheap build. Not everyone is up for that task, some people just prefer to plug in and play. That ease of use + no fucking around with driver updates and graphics settings just to get a new game to work correctly can be a big deal. And you can be pretty certain that whatever game you buy will work well since it's made to run on that specific hardware. With PC it can be a bit hit and miss because there are so many combinations of hardware and your system might bottleneck at a different point than a similar (but not identical) rig, sometimes the only way to be sure if the game will run on your particular system is to buy it (or pirate it, but not everyone is into that)

It's possible Nintendo will some day move away from consoles, but I don't see it happening any time soon. They are not one to make rash decisions, they will likely be the last ones to leave the console market because they are so invested in it, it's basically all they do, whereas both M$ and Sony have many other incomes.

The thing is with a computer that when you first build it, it can be quite expensive but the beautiful thing about pc gaming is upgrading doesn't cost that much. You constantly re-use old parts like your case, power supply, monitors, keyboard, mouse and even a cpu can last a long long time and you'll just probably end up upgrading 2-3 generations of gpu's before you upgrade all the rest so in that regard pc gaming is cheaper than a console. Exclusives are becoming less and less. There was an era when consoles had ALL the games and games on pc were barren. I remember me gaming in the 90's early 2000's on my pc and games were well different on pc and def the lesser experience in a lot of ways because pc gaming wasn't that popular. But pc gaming hasn't been more popular than it ever was and it still growing and developers are starting to notice that hence why we see more and more the push of wich used to be console exclusives like monster hunter, spyro, yakuza, crash bandicoot and so much more coming to pc wich would never happen in the past. Those are the signs that console gaming is dying out. Yeah i know ps4 sold a shit ton and games 2 but it could have been more and the next generation will sell just fine but the generation after that ? Not sure there will be a console generation as we know it after that. Probably just another compact pc box with Xbox or Sony added 2 it. Also driver updates and installs is also a thing of the past since windows 10 packs in almost every driver. So you just install windows 10 and it works. It has been ages since i had 2 install drivers for something, i just plug it in and it works because windows 10 has the driver already embedded in it

That's true, but there's still a big initial cost to building a gaming PC, unless you build it super cheap, use a scavenged low end GPU and upgrade it later down the line. And a lot of people don't want to spend that much. And a super cheap system means it's going to need upgrades badly in a short amount of time and it ends up not being cheap after all.

PC gaming is definitely not cheaper than a console. A decent GPU costs as much as or more than a console and needs replacing more frequently as well if you want to always be able to play the latest games without having to turn the graphics down to the lowest setting where the game looks like ass.

Not quite true. A 1660 Ti does high settings 1440p 60fps assasins creed and it costs around 270 euro wich is the cheapest i can find for Europe on amazon wich has the same performance as an X since it is on par with a 1070, even has like 3-5 fps increase in some games so in that regard it is cheaper and has the same performance as an xbox x.
as you can see in the youtube video it even can achieve around 60fps ultra settings 1440p so in that regard it is cheaper
