Though Konami may not be releasing influential classics at the same pace as a few decades ago, players will be able to relive some of those experiences once more, through three upcoming compilation packs. Contra: Anniversary Collection, Castlevania: Anniversary Collection, and Anniversary Collections: Arcade Classics have all been revealed as a celebration of Konami’s 50th anniversary.

Each game will offer the following in their respective bundles.

Castlevania: Anniversary:
  • Castlevania
  • Castlevania II: Belmont’s Revenge
  • Castlevania: Dracula’s Curse
  • Super Castlevania IV
  • Four mystery games

Contra Anniversary:
  • Contra
  • Super Contra
  • Super C
  • Contra III
  • Four mystery games
Arcade Anniversary:
  • Haunted Castle
  • Twinbee
  • Thunder Cross
  • Typhoon
  • Gradius
  • Gradius II
  • Life Force/Salamander
  • Scramble
Each package will also come with a special eBook that includes developer secrets and character designs that have never been revealed to the public. The first of the games to release will be Anniversary Collections: Arcade Classics, which will be available on April 18th, and will cost $19.99. The other two games will follow up later this summer. You’ll be able to buy all three as digital-only releases for Xbox One, PC, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch.

I sincerely hope they re-translate Castlevania II at the very least. Anyhow, I was expecting more than the 8 and 16 bit offerings. Will pass...
They won't. In fact, they aren't even including Simon's Quest, they're including Belmont's Revenge on the Game Boy.

Lol, not gonna happen. Too much work for them. It's going to be Dracula x and the one with the guy using Alucard spear, maybe the gameboy ones.
Come to think of it, Castlevania: Bloodlines (Genesis) never saw any rerelease ever, despite being well-regarded.

First reaction: F*ck yeah, a Contra collection, finally!
Second reaction: Meh, only the four "oldest" titles which I can enjoy with RetroArch anyway, even excluding the great SEGA Genesis / Mega Drive one.
I was hoping for a re-release of the sweet WiiWare game as part of the collection:

Let's see what those
  • Four mystery games
will be. However: I'm not interested in any 3D Contra games so I don't mind whether they are included or not.

Also, why is there two Super Contras? Are Super Contra and Super C not the same game? Rolfe-chan, why am I chronologically confused!?

Super Contra is an arcade game and Super C is for the Nes. The two games are similar but at the same time vastly different.

Emulators you guys? Did you abandoned them?
Not to buy from Konami again because they are a troll company? What happened to that?

All they will do is combine some roms together and post them online, and make some easy money.
And you guys so happy about that.

If it's a good emulator (NES, SNES classic) idc. If it sucks like PS Classic, I won't be buying it.

Honestly why I don't care about the NES/SNES/PS Classic things and other similar devices.

Inb4 two of the "Four mystery games" are Castlevania The Adventure for GB and Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest for NES. Because they can't give us anything newer than damn SNES.

You're shitting me. No Symphony of The Night or the DS games?
I mean, they are only listing four more games per franchise.
Four unknown games for Castlevania, and other 4 for Contra.
We have Castlevania I, Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge (This is the Gameboy game, not Simon's Quest on NES), Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse and Super Castlevania IV.

It seems odd that they purposely left out Castlevania II: Simon's Quest on NES and also Castlevania: The Adventure on Gameboy, but they included the all the other games on the NES and the sequel to the Gameboy one in the list.

I am not saying we might not get Symphony of the Night nor any of the DS ones, but given the current list and what they left out, I wouldn't get my hopes high for some of the more cool Castlevanias.
Odds are they might include whatever they can from the 8-bit and 16-bit era.
With some luck, we might get Bloodlines in there, that's a high contender to be one of the mystery 4.

As for the rest, with the planets aligning and all, maybe... MAYBE Rondo of Blood and Symphony.
It would be pretty stupid of them not to include one of the two, but then again, it's Konami, they are not well known for being "smart" in their decisions as of late.

Why would they add either of those games to the collection when they just released both of them together for a tiny duo of games?
