Konami will be releasing anniversary collections for Castlevania and Contra

Though Konami may not be releasing influential classics at the same pace as a few decades ago, players will be able to relive some of those experiences once more, through three upcoming compilation packs. Contra: Anniversary Collection, Castlevania: Anniversary Collection, and Anniversary Collections: Arcade Classics have all been revealed as a celebration of Konami’s 50th anniversary.

Each game will offer the following in their respective bundles.

Castlevania: Anniversary:
  • Castlevania
  • Castlevania II: Belmont’s Revenge
  • Castlevania: Dracula’s Curse
  • Super Castlevania IV
  • Four mystery games

Contra Anniversary:
  • Contra
  • Super Contra
  • Super C
  • Contra III
  • Four mystery games
Arcade Anniversary:
  • Haunted Castle
  • Twinbee
  • Thunder Cross
  • Typhoon
  • Gradius
  • Gradius II
  • Life Force/Salamander
  • Scramble
Each package will also come with a special eBook that includes developer secrets and character designs that have never been revealed to the public. The first of the games to release will be Anniversary Collections: Arcade Classics, which will be available on April 18th, and will cost $19.99. The other two games will follow up later this summer. You’ll be able to buy all three as digital-only releases for Xbox One, PC, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch.

I am going to be the negative one that a lot might hate, but fuck Konami for trying to sell me on nostalgia. This is cool and all, but when are we going to see new versions of these games? When are they going to stop firing their best people? When are they going to stop being a shit company? This doesn't make up for the years of shit they've pulled.

I agree. Konami will only be redeemed when they create new games that actual seem like they have heart behind them and are good games.

Man, I was expecting for once, a great compilation of CastleVania games. I was hoping they would add at least the GBA and DS one's to this collection, and Symphony of the Night. Guess not.

Still have the NES and GB cartridges in my collection - would have bought a physical release tough.

The laziest collections ever

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Imagine, one of the fated four would be Order of Ecclesia.
Lol, not gonna happen. Too much work for them. It's going to be Dracula x and the one with the guy using Alucard spear, maybe the gameboy ones.
Minimal chance for symphony, but I wouldn't count on it

I don’t think there will ever be a good castlevania game again, the main person that helped make the game good, makes the bloodstained games and that’s why even though there’s only going to be two bloodstained games at the moment, those games might always be better than castlevania, even though bloodstained is like playing castlevania.

Its not like the formula hasn't been analyzed to death, give it to a good team and you'll get a good game out of it. The story hasn't exactly been revolutionary either, so I'm pretty sure there could be great castlevanias with or without iga.

And as we've seen with mighty no9, it's not always the mind behind the original that makes or breaks a game

Not trying to be negative here but can't you play all these games already on retroarch? What I wanna see Konami do is port/remaster metal gear solid games. Twin snakes, peace walker, sons of liberty, snake eater? The switch is more than capable running all those games. Come on konami!!!

I agree, but, here's to hoping that they would even have an ounce of care. Symphony of the Night had already been ported along with Rondo of Blood last year.

I’d like Castlevania 3 to include VRC6 support which provides higher quality audio. AFAIK this is currently a Japan-exclusive feature. The virtual console releases in the west did not support this.

As for the games, I want Castlevania: Bloodlines and Contra: Hard Corps to be included.

I hope to fucking Hitchens that we get Hard Corps Uprising with all of the DLC in addition to Harmony of Despair and the Re:Birth games in wider and more available distribution!

Also, why is there two Super Contras? Are Super Contra and Super C not the same game? Rolfe-chan, why am I chronologically confused!?

Oh, and the Arcade Classics can be played on anything these days...

I kinda wish the Arcade classics had some newer games like Gradius V, but oh well. Wonder what other games they'll include in the castlevania collection though, there's a lot more than 4.

Not sure if many of you guys will remember it, but I grew up playing Super Probotector as that’s what Super Contra was released as in the UK. Maybe it’s just grown on me, but I actually prefer the robot sprites over the human ones.
