You can play games directly from USB with SXOS .

I know, i have it. Great feature, not available in any other CFW. What im saying is that its good for all of us if stuff that its unique to one CFW gets released in the others CFWs. The more options the better.

SX Installer app can do it!

Havnt used SX installer much, can i just plug an USB and paste my save files to the USB, edit them on my PC and put them back/restore them on my SD? With XenobladeC2 i had to turn off my Switch everytime i wanted to edit my save file, for the removing SD issue.

That's not installing. That's just copying and pasting.

Which is better than installing.

Absolutely, it has a fully featured file browser.

This looks very crappy compared to the sxos implementation, well the USB hdd was not needed because is just a sxos feature lol so being crappy is understandable
Then you should implement a better way if you have the skills to do so and if you can't well shut the hell up because who are you to say something like that if you lack the skills yourself

well Cobra didn't release the source code. It was a member of cobra itself who was dissatisfied with how the team was handling matters so he leaked the source code.

No. Cobra released it and then someone started figuring out how to make it run without the dongle (I don't recall if this ever happened).

A little while later the person who developed it released a version without the protection.

You can't install NSP files to USB drives. You can mount XCI files from USB drives. So USB HDD support is pointless for anything related to expanding your game library, without the crucial element that is XCI Mounting
Hardly. You can keep your entire collection of nsps on a cheap USB HDD, and if you archive some games to make room for more games, you still have the nsps easily available to be installed at any time. Sure you can keep them on your PC and copy them over to SD when needed but that's way more hassle and a USB HDD is way more portable than a laptop.

Not always, just sometimes. You can keep more frequently played games on the Switch and just have the lesser played ones as nsps so they are still easily available.

Look, i have always thought this XCI vs NSP debate its stupid. XCI has some good stuff, NSP also has some good stuff. Both have bad stuff. Theres is not a better method, just 2 options. Use what you want.

With that said, you and me both know that not being able to play games directly from an USB device/HDD and having to install them when you want a new game its just worse than copy/paste and playing. Thats just a fact, not an opinion. Its one of the advantages of XCI, no reason to deny that. Like i said, NSP also has some good stuff, but the options that we have now (SX OS) its just better than what we gonna get in this update, like it or not.

Gonna say it just one more time so i dont sound like a fanboy: They are both great and im sure in the future we would be able to play NSP games from and USB, but right now theres no debate.

Of course, all I am saying is that having USB support for installing nsps from isn't useless, it's just a hassle.

another use for USB loading which SX OS users have been enjoying for quite a long time. I went on a cruise last month and guess what? I loaded up the USB HDD with a heap of SXI and NSP files and took it along with my Switch.. able to carry it by hand and I had a huge library to choose from as I relaxed each night, before bed.

the USB HDD is also useful to copy your save games and backups TO, without pulling out your SD Card from the switch.

I read through and still confused about this. So will we be able to load nsp's from hdd without installing? or is this just installing nsp's to sd card from an hdd? I'm hoping for the former.

Agree. Is it as good as what SX offer now? No. Is it usefull? Hell yeah and im sure this would be the first step to get better things from free USB loading in the future.

agrred.. as I've said many times - CFW users troll SX OS users on it's ease of use features BECAUSE THEY HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED THEM, so they have *NO* idea what they are missing. It's like getting into a high end car where the seat automatically conforms to your body.. then the seat warmer turns on...

you are only able to install NSPs to SD card from HDD - which is also a current limitation for SX OS USB support, HOWEVER SX OS *can* RUN XCI images direct from a USB HDD or stick without needing to copy them to the SD card.

XCI loading direct from USB really comes into it's own when you convert NSP files inlcuding their update and DLC into one XCI image using NSCbuilder. Then you are not limited by just the official cartridge based releases.

THIS person gets another use for USB HDD support!

If im not mistaken, its the latter. You can get the nsp files from the USB/HDD and then install them to your Switch/SD. You cant install them on the USB/HDD itself, at least for now. Maybe in the future.

I mean, i think they know, but there would always be people trolling and complaining, its just the way things are. Not all of them are like this tho, so lets not generalize and just use what you want.
