Officially licensed retro SEGA controllers to be released by Retro-Bit this spring

RB-Sega-Banner-12-10-18.png
As its name implies, Retro-Bit has a soft spot for anything retro. We've reviewed their 3-in-1 console that plays NES, SNES and Genesis carts and even the NES game that they brought to the West after 30 years! In line with their philosophy to keep retro consoles alive, the company announced partnership with Sega at CES 2018 to bring six of their retro controllers back with original and USB-ports should yours be out of order, or should you just want to have a retro SEGA feel while playing your new games. While they were announced a few months ago, those controllers will soon be available to purchase in the coming months as you can see below:

● Sega Genesis® 6-button Arcade Pad - Original Port - NA (Available April 2019)
● Sega Genesis® 8-button Arcade Pad - USB® - NA (Available March 2019)
● Sega® Mega Drive 6-button Arcade Pad - Original Port - EU (Available May 2019)
● Sega® Mega Drive 8-button Arcade Pad - USB® - EU (Available April 2019)
● Sega Saturn® Control Pad - Original Port - NA and EU (Available April 2019)
● Sega Saturn® with USB® Control Pad - NA and EU (Available April 2019)

Retro-Bit touts its version of those classic controllers as packing the same original-grade quality as their original Sega counterparts along some improvements. For one, the cables are now extended to 10-feet (3 meters) for increased mobility while in play. During development of the controllers, the company also paid additional detail in the performance of the D-Pad which is often a scrutinized component to retro gaming fans. They also repositioned the mode button in the controller with USB port to make it more ergonomic and cater to the gamer’s alternative gaming options.

“We are extremely happy to have collaborated with Sega to bring the world of gaming these timeless classics back with a special touch of Retro-Bit. We made very The Eagerly-Awaited Sega and Retro-Bit Collaboration Sees Success in the European Gaming Community Before its March and April Release precise revisions to absolutely perfect them in order to bring the best quality of controllers for the gaming community. Just in the same quality that Sega always has. I believe we’ve achieved just that”, said Ali Manzuri, Product and Business Development at Game Outlet Europe, Retro-Bit’s exclusive distributor in Europe.

More details about the availability and purchase links is available on Retro-Bit's official website linked below. What other SEGA controllers would you like to see revived?

UPDATE:

The Product and Business Development at Game Outlet Europe, Retro-Bit’s exclusive distributor in Europe, Ali Manzuri, reached out to us to provide further details about more controllers to be released. Namely a Bluetooth and 2.4Ghz version are in the works and will be released in Summer 2019!

TBH it's kinda disappointing they didn't use the opportunity to add dual sticks and trigger buttons, as well as make them wireless. Like how 8bitdo updated the SNES controller.
I can understand that when it comes to the Mega Drive/Genesis controller as it preserves the proper "hand feel" and makes it a good replica, but I fail to understand it in the case of the Saturn or the Dreamcast - both consoles featured analog sticks (optional 3D controller for the Saturn and its older brother, the Dreamcast controller) and their logos are prominently displayed on the promotional material. It makes no sense to exclude this essential input on modern controllers, they should've at least made two more molds for the systems that used sticks.

The USB versions could be good for some MAME games. Some arcade games are designed for 6 face buttons and it's hard to find a good controller with 6 face buttons.

@Prans Small issue with the post: "We made very The Eagerly-Awaited Sega and Retro-Bit Collaboration Sees Success in the European Gaming Community Before its March and April Release precise revisions to absolutely perfect them in order to bring the best quality of controllers for the gaming community."

Meh. I always thought that the snes had a far better layout than any Sega controller.
I think a big reason why people liked them so much was when they started making the 6-button layout that replicated the arcade machines of the day.
That way you could practice combos at home, and have a general idea of the same layout to do said combo.
Plus playing SFII on SNES and using the shoulder buttons was always something of a finicky control scheme for me

For me, the whole point of getting one of these is to get a newer controller and perserve the feel of using the original thing. If they only had models with analogs pasted on I would not even bother buying one and just use the many other modern controllers I have lying around from my PS3/PS4/WiiU.

I copied the exact press statement, so I'm not sure what they exactly meant.

I picked up one of their N64 USB controller when I went to Denver a few months back. Works surprisingly well, but you can still tell it's a third party controller. 8Bitdo is excellent in the fact their products have that premium feel. We'll see how this goes, and I'm confused as to why Dreamcast is in that image. Are they going to do a DC controller? Did I miss it?

This is definitely great news, I'm picking up one of those clear blue Mega Drive controllers. Finally, a high-quality, official controller, unlike all that shit SEGA's Brazilian publisher has been trying to shove down our throats.

That aside, why is there a Dreamcast logo if no Dreamcast-related products have been announced?
If they eventually announce a DC controller, I hope they also produce Saturn analog controllers as well.

I was talking about also recreating these:

More options, not less. :)

8BITDO does modernizing, Retro-Bit recreates that great feel of the original but with new everything.

Great feel but not great quality. Maybe these will be different since SEGA attached their name to it (or not considering they partnered with ATGames) but Retro-bit doesn't have a good reputation for a reason. Their generic versions, which seem to be the exact same as these just without the branding and clear option, suck in durability.

@K3Nv2 Snow Day is pretty fun. My only bitch would be the camera controls, when you move around, say down, you have to move the right stick left or right to get camera to turn and get your view, other than that I like it so far.

I just been playing offline, and they give you a few bots here n there on your team to help battle. I don't think it's as funny as the other games tho, more battle oriented than humor, which kinda sucks, but I'm still early in it
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@BigOnYa, doesnt the game have a campaign mode?
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Yea, and co-op, but you can also start a pvp session and battle just with friends. You get special skill cards (powers) the more you play. And higher value cards, but you can only enable so many cards at a time.

Toilet paper is considered the money, you collect and buy stuff with TP, kinda funny. Graphics are def better than the other games tho, I think they used Unity 5 engine.
