Fair enough. But still. Why do you have to defend .xci files here? USB HDD support is not useless if XCI support isn't there :/
USB drive support is nice for convenience, but without XCI support there's no real point to say... 4TB docked USB HDD. And for people with kids, for example, this use case is very common.

You don't have to be so condescending. If we can install NSP files on a USB drive, what's the problem? It's a good thing for everyone no?

It's a good thing for people who want to store NSP on USB and then install them on their switch, not sure that everyone will want or use that.

I personally would love to see XCI mounting, with caching. So if you are docked and select an XCI it copies it to sd card while you are playing and then when it's finished copying you can undock (have it pop up or something).

You can install from a USB, but you can't install to a USB drive and then play games directly from USB. This is a lot of the benefit of USB drive support; HDD's are cheap, MicroSD's are less cheap.

Exactly, this is the purpose of it. But I'm just disappointed to seeing a lack of full potential here :(

I said "IF". Just a couple of months ago it wasn't even possible to reboot to the payload again. And yet here we are.
Also sd cards are dirt cheap.

Just wondering for sxos users, are your games installed into the Nintendo folder or is that not required when loading xci files, if it’s not required I’m going to hope or think it won’t be required for nsp games. I do have a Nintendo folder already in my hard drive but I also have the same games backed up as nsp files in a different folder.

It's not required as XCI files are mounted in place of the cartridge slot. Save data will go in the Nintendo directory on your MicroSD card, though.

400gb, got two of them.
I tend to delete games I don't play anymore. But that's just me!
400GB MicroSD for me, with full romsets of mostly everything in retroarch. Then I use some 512GB USB-C thumbdrives for on the go, and an 8TB HDD on my dock. XCI just offers too much benefit.

You could buy two 1tb hard drives for the price of one 400gb drive.

Play games? What is that? Isn't the idea you just download games in every language and scroll through them?

I believe that Save data goes into internal storage not MicroSD.

XCI, you dont have to install anything on SX, just mount and play.
NSP, you can install to either internal storage (eMMC) or Microsd (Nintendo folder or Emutendo folder for Emunand).

It would be good if somehow we can play NSP directly without installing it.

does this support USB so I can load retroarch and then have access to GB or roms and isos?

ummm USB support is one of the major points in SX OS and consistently has been pooh poohed by atmos users as useless,, irrelevant and inconvenient to have a USB device hanging from the switch.. the hypocrisy reeks - that is probably the cause for the condescension.

As I have said MANY, MANY times - atmos users have no concept of the ease of use features on SX OS and ridicule them.

But I hope xortroll sticks with this project and finalises USB support so other CFW users can enjoy it as well.

that's a lot of storage space for homebrew and emulated games... ;)

oh no.. I use switch backup manager and doge and delete the ones which don't have english language support as well as non-english language packs (Skyrim in Russian? no thanks) :)
