What are kips? I keep hearing about it in SX threads saying that they dont have it and Atmos does.

What do they do? Can i get an example of an usefull function from them, that sx cant do.

It dosen't show up under Devices. Tried restarting the computer and also tried all the others USB ports of the PC.
Do you have any other device to send payloads with such as another computer, Android, or iOS device?

Kips are sysmodules. Think of plugins. For example, FTP can be implemented as a kip so it is always running. Kips are useful for stuff that wouldn't be ideal as homebrew. SX cannot load external kips (due to a variety of reasons) so if there is an exclusive kip, it would have to be included within SX OS itself in order to be utilized. This was the case for the idn_mitm.kip which converts local wireless to LAN expanding the number of games supported by Switch LAN Play and Xlink Kai. Another useful kip is the one for overclocking which SX cannot utilize unless they themselves incorporate it into the CFW. And there may be other future kips released in the future. I know of a developer who is working on implementing nxmtp, which is a homebrew tool to transfer files via USB, as a sysmodule aka kip.

Sometimes my switch likes to play dead. Hold the power button down for about 15 secs to make sure it is off. Then press the power button to autoRCM. Try plugging it in then.

I have a switch my kids have used twice in the last year, with tons of games and it just collects dust. So I bought the only dongle I could find on ebay which was a ns-atmosphere and want to hack this thing. Unfortunately my kids updated to 7.0.1 and I bought this switch at launch so its got the right serial numbers for hacking. I hacked many wiis back in the day but that was a long time ago and am lost trying to figure out all these cfw's. I downloaded atmosphere 0.8.5 but not sure how to update the dongle I have. I got the ns atmosphere updater and was able to locate it on pc. But which file do you write with to upgrade dongle? And can anyone point me to a step by step first time hack with one of these things that I should be using. There are so many all over I just want to be sure which one is best. And should I just downgrade this thing to 6.2 or try to use the 7.0.1? Lastly, in the xbox 360 days i could take a disc and copy it right to hdd with jtag, can i copy all my switch games to sd card same way once a hack is in place? Thats alot of questions fellas, sorry.

I used guide.sdsetup. Can't give direct link as forum disallows it for new users. It is a com. Or you can google it. Should be first result after ad.

Account bans are so rare and limited to very severe offences. But if you have any doubt, you can try initializing the system as well as deregistering the primary console holder.
.

(I transferred all my user accounts off this switch but I restored my original nand backup so they all came back along with my legit games with access to them)

Thanks, that gives me some piece of mind. I guess deregistering I contact nintendo and tell them I no longer have the console? But won't they just tell me I don't need to do that since I already transferred all my old user accounts off the old switch and on to the new switch?

I also can't turn off parental controls without going online. I guess I can delete the old console from my app and its not a big deal to remember my pin code. initializing the system would get rid of this though but it wipes out everything doesn't it?

I am thinking though I can just use homebrew to backup all my saves, delete my user accounts, make new offline ones, then restore the saves? I would loose access to my legit games if I did this though wouldn't I. I guess I can reinstall nsp vesions of those games. If I my assumptions are correct I will probably do that, is there a decent tutorial on using a homebrew save manager on switch?

Depends on which version of Atmosphere you are running. If its the one from ReSwitched's GitHub page, then you will need to flash fusee-primary.bin onto the dongle. If its from Kosmos, then its the hekate file that needs to be placed in the ns-atmosphere. By the way, ReiNX also supports firmware 7.0.1 now as of Version 2.1 so you can use that CFW as well if you want. For that, you will need to flash the ReiNX.bin file that is downloaded from the guide.

There are no guides that deal with your specific dongle (outside of the one included on their website) because there are multiple dongles that flash the payload differently. However I've listed the payloads that would need to be flashed regardless of your dongle so you would just have to follow the CFW's guide and replace the steps where you inject the payload with the payload you flash onto the ns-atmosphere.

So here's my question. To this day I've only used SX OS and *.xci-Files for playing games. I mounted the *.xci-files under SX OS CFW, with airplane mode and the nintendo-servers blocking feature enabled. To update my games I loaded up Horizon-OS and just loaded an update from the icon in the home menu - like I did with any other legit purchased game. Worked fine so far and I haven't been banned yet for over half a year of using this. Everything online-play related is done with legit cardridges.
Now I've seen modified *.xci-Files which include stuff like updates/DLC and converted *.nsp-files for e-shop-only games which got converted to the *xci-format. Do I increase my change of getting banned by using these? Because essentially you're using a cardridge based version of a game which doesn't exist in cardridge form. Same goes for the included DLCs, normally you would have to install an *.nsp-file to access the DLC. What happens to the included certs in these former *.nsp-files when they get converted or included into an exisiting *.xci-file?
I do know that you can never be a 100% safe, but I could need some clarification on this.

Whenever you're using homebrew or CFW, there's always a risk of being banned. It's just a question of time.
