Not that weird, cartridge updates don't update the sound app. That's why the guide says:Still kinda weird how it works on that firmware.
Note that cartridge updates will only deliver updates to core features, such as the System Settings, Home Menu, etc. cartridge updates will not deliver updates to Nintendo 3DS Sound and Network features, such as System Transfer, Internet Browser, StreetPass Mii Plaza, or eShop.
This means that using a cartridge update from a version containing an older Nintendo 3DS Sound version (<3.0.0) to one that introduced a newer Nintendo 3DS Sound version will break Soundhax! You will need an alternate method of entering the Homebrew Launcher!
The best way to run homebrew on later system versions is to install CFW and run it from there, since most applications either require permissions userland exploits don't offer, or they just crap out because the exploits used aren't the very stable.but unfortunately most of the 3DS homebrew will not run on my 3DS.
Oops, for some reason I thought he had CFW. But that doesn't make sense because then soundhax couldn't work regardless of system version. Thanks @zacchi4k !The best way to run homebrew on later system versions is to install CFW and run it from there, since most applications either require permissions userland exploits don't offer, or they just crap out because the exploits used aren't the very stable.
In your case, it's possible to update to 11.9 and install CFW for free. You can follow 3ds.hacks.guide for that.
Not that weird, cartridge updates don't update the sound app. That's why the guide says:
This is a sign of a cart update, a proper 11.6 would be 11.6.0-39U. Your Sound app was not updated with the rest of the system, as cart updates don't touch system apps.11.6.0-31U
Yeah, the recent firmware updates kinda killed most homebrew compatibility. Get cfw if you want to run them.however homebrew launcher will crash if I try to load anything
You don't necessarily need to use an R4 to install CFW, you can use Fredminer or Frogminer instead (if you don't want to risk flashing your flashcart/find those methods easier)I happened to have found one image of the homebrew launcher, however homebrew launcher will crash if I try to load anything like 3dscraft or some homebrew from 2016 (I've only managed to get braindump and easyrpg to work) so it's kinda dead at this point.

Since I have an r4i though I may install a cfw, but more than likely on a different 3ds/2ds (whenever I get a different one).
